Hi,

I'm just about to changer the brake pads on my auto 03 turbo.

Should I go with the factory pads or is there a better alternative?

Are there any traps changing pads or is it straightforward?

Or use qfm pads very little dust and brake well hot or cold.

Definitely go aftermarket pads, I had QFM too when I had std brakes. The factory brake pads in the early BAs were half the cause of brake shudder.

.... or you could read through the 69 pages of posts on brake shudder etc. There is a great deal of discussion in there on brake pad options.

I agree with the guys above, I fitted QFM pads after suffering brake shudder and have not had it return. The QFMs are very low dust and wear very well. I do a lot of highway driving and my QFMs (in the front only) are now about 30% worn and they have been in there for 75000 km.

ive got the standard brakes on my o3 T. is it better to change the entire brake setup or would just getting brake pads suffice? just asking for the future, when I get my edit ^^

Standard QFMs on mine. There is nothing wrong (IMHO) with the effectiveness of the BA brakes, they just develop brake shudder really easily which seems to be resulting from a poor choice of pad/rotor combination. The brakes don't work any better with the QFM pads, I noticed no difference, they just don't develop the brake shudder.

I have not heard of people suffering problems with the rear brakes on the BA (mind you, I didn't bother to read the 69 pages in the Brake Shudder topic) so I didn't change my rears. I am perfectly happy with the BA brakes after swapping to QFM pads however, I am very light on brakes and I am not in the habit of really heavy and repeated brake applications. My rear tyres get a hell of a workout, the brakes do not.

If you just want to stop brake shudder, go QFMs. If you want better overall braking because you use brakes heavily and think BA brakes are crap, you will need more than QFM pads.

Sorry, don't know the part numbers. I bought my QFM pads from Racebrakes in Sydney (Unit 6/79 Newton Road, Wetherill, Park Tel (02) 9609-1101)

I put in a set of Bendix ultimates and they got rid of the shudder completely and pull up much harder with less fade although they are a bit dusty. Got them for $199 fitted for the the front.
