Metallic Window Tint

Ive only had my BF T for a week now and it desperately needs some window tint. Since you guys seem to know everything about everything I wanna ask why the cars manuel says that metallic windown tint cant be used on the car as it interferes with the cars radio reception.

Driving round in this thing during the day it gets hot and needs a good quality film. Feel free to make any suggestions. I did read on here somewhere that there is a bloke in Sydney that looks after us.

I hear Solace Formula 1 metallic tint is the best at bout $395.

Sounds like a good price

Unless you listen to AM radio a lot I wouldnt worry about it. It doesnt affect FM reception.

The only place the metal film makes a difference is on the rear window, as the demister element doubles as the AM aerial...

So as XXXR6T said unless your a talk back fan who can't stand static on the odd occasion, it doesn't matter much.

Hi Bionic

I own a window tinting business on the Gold Coast. I've just sold the auto tinting side of the business so have no vested interest in my comments.

I've used the darkest legal film that is approved for the BA onwards Falcon on my own cars. It's called EMINM35, that stands for Electro Magnetic Interference Non Metalised 35% light transmission.

Everyone who sees this film on my car assumes it's darker than legal but it's not, it's right on the limit, although it looks like a 28% film. It has a heat rejection of 50% which is pretty good considering no metal is used.

This is the only film on the market that guarantees not to interfere with the radio signal.

We are given a list of cars that should not be tinted with metalised films due to the possibilty of interference with the radio reception. Whilst it's true this usually only affects AM band it has been known to cause interference on FM if you are a long way from the signal source or the signal is not that strong.

As regards price we charged the same ($295) for both EMINM35 and our equivalent to Formula 1 called Ultima. Both come with a "Lifetime Manufacturers Warranty". The main difference is Ultima stops 60% of heat, is a little bit lighter and is made purely of metal.

We use three different brands of film, 3M, MEP and Solargard. All three make films suitable for our cars, but this is what I've found to be the most suitable.

Regards

Hi mate

I, too, read the non-metallic film thing in the Ford book, but I did it anyway. Got the darkest legal metallic tint at the time of purchase.

I have noticed that it affects the radio reception - my second car is a Series III AU with a power aerial and it gets better reception. The radio range in the Phoon is cut down.

I live on the outskirts of Sydney, and places where I used to get reception are now fuzzy. Closer to town, though, it's fine.

Radio Vs tint? Go the tint and have a few CDs in the stacker.

I believe I have a non-metallic tint just on the rear window.

No problems at all.

I was under the impression that the reason that you shouldn't use metallic window tint is that it will corrode the ariel.

As any schoolboy will tell you, when two dissimilar metals are touching each other one will start to oxidise or corrode. This why should never mix gold plated plugs with non-gold sockets on your kick-arse home stereo system because the sound quality will deteriorate over time as the connection becomes corroded.

Therefore with metallic window tint, you are adhering it to the ariel and eventually one will corrode.

That's what I read somewhere anyways.

Isn't the rear demister element coated??? I always thought they had plastic/polymer over the wire... could be wrong

Anyway too much wine tonight to think about electrochemical series... :sleepystuff:

That bloke is called Bob, and he uses that Solace Formula1 metallic tint.

He used to own a couple of Solaces, in the business for 20 years.

The only difference between him and Solace themselves, He will do a better job than someone who's been doing it for a couple of years, and he only charges $200, not $395.

You can get him on: 0411 333 069

Check this thread out for more details.

PS, I've had my last 2 BA falcons tinted with metallic tint (by Bob). No problems with FM reception. I can't vouch for AM as I've never had a reason to listen to it.
