Did you take your car in for work and leave your custom tune in it?

BAD mistake! If they reflash your PCM you will not be able to reload your tune - your tuner will have to reset it and do it for you and you lose one of your "lives" in the flasher.

Sorry Jeff , I am not understanding something here Wouldn't it just be a case of flashing in your original custom tune as this would overwrite the dealers factory map. Thought this was the whole point in having the flasher box.

To understand it you need to understand how the flasher works - - - and this is how I understand it.

OK, when you connect the flasher and try to upload one of the tunes the flasher first downloads the tune that is already in the car and stores it in the appropriate slot, F, P1, P2, or P3, according to it's code. Each of these slots has a code for the tune it holds. Each tune has a unique identifying code. If the tune you try to download is NOT matched to the correct position of one of the codes in the flasher's memory then it simply won't work.

So, if you go into the dealer while you have P1 loaded and he reflashes your PCM, the PCM will now have a code for P1 that is not the original one that the flasher put in there and therefore it will be un-recognizable by the flasher.

Therefore to protect your flasher's integrity you MUST re-instal the F position tune, so if the dealer flashes it, the F position will retain it's correct code, of course leaving the P1 code unaltered.

In another simpler way - if the dealer flashes over your P1 tune, then that tune will have the code of the F tune so when to go to suck it out and re-install the P1 tune the flasher will not recognize the code as it will be looking for the P1 code which it last installed.
