February 23, 200620 yr #1 Hello allHad the t in today to get the dif replaced due to diff wine.Got it back this arvo and the no cost option (drive line shunt ) is no longer there. The ford service guy said they are having heaps of trouble with the diffs they now are hand built.
February 23, 200620 yr #2 Robbo,I didn't get the gist of your last sentence. Is that:1. they are having heaps of trouble with the diffs BECAUSE they are hand built.or2. they are having heaps of trouble with the diffs so they are NOW being hand built (to try and fix that).PS Glad your shunt is gone.
February 23, 200620 yr #3 Id assume he means they are hand building them now as they were having issues with them.Whether hand building them fixes the problem for good or not will be another story, our BA II XLS ute has a whine at 80 kays an hour, im not going to bother getting it fixed because A) its not that noticable and it only does it at 80 kays and B) they mite put a new diff in that's worse. Its really a gamble the old diff replacement saga, unless you have it done yourself external to Ford.
February 24, 200620 yr #4 Driving home from work today I took off from a standstill around a corner and had a sudden knock occur in the rear end and then a continious knock, knock, knock for about 100m. It went away after this.I drove straight to my Ford dealer and after a quick look stated that a new diff from Dana would be in stock by Tuesday next week for installation.I will let you all know how the new one goes.
February 24, 200620 yr #5 Author It would appear that I missed out a full stop. They are now hand built because they are having so much trouble with themRob
February 24, 200620 yr #6 Mine had a seal replaced about a month ago which involved stripping it down, and obviously replacing the oil. I must say there is not really a noticible clunk any more... dunno what they have changed but it seems a simple rebuild might work too.
February 26, 200620 yr #7 Whether hand building them fixes the problem for good or not will be another story, No it does not. 5 diffs later.....................The hand built comment is ford just feeding you bullsh*t.
February 27, 200620 yr #8 I was told by my dealer that they get replace with new ones when under a certain amount of km, & get rebuilt if done over a certain amount of km. The rebuilt option was the way to go, cos they are done properly, the new ones are built to a cost.......one that is obvioulsy not high enough. I want to get mine sorted out-have a whine at 80-100kmh but dont wanna risk getting a worse one!
February 27, 200620 yr #9 My XR6T does the whine between 80km/h and 100km/h (only 15 months old), so dealer agreed to replace the LSD under warranty - just waiting for it to arrive, hopefully clears up the whine and shunt when it goes in Apart from that it's generally a smooth and comfortable ride.If Ford ever get their drive line issues sorted out they will have a winner, until then I don't know how much longer they can afford to hand out new diffs like candy because that appears to be the current solution, haha.
February 27, 200620 yr #10 Dealers seem very keen to replace diffs. Mine was OK - but they changed it anyway, along with an axle. Clunk went away, but returned within 10000ks.
