Just wondering about a CAI for my BF, I've seen one on ebay which someone posted a link for on another thread... just have a few q's about them.

Is the one advertised on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-BF-XR6-270KW-T...1QQcmdZViewItem any good or should I just go for a SS Inductions one.

Are they easy to install yourself (for someone who knows little about mods) or is it just safe to spend an extra $200 for an SS and get it installed?

Do the CAI's upset Fords Warranty at all (could it be responsible for any probs)?

Any reason to not go for a CAI?

and from what I've seen, some people have installed 2x CAI's, is this recommended?

Cheers,

Travis

Been said a 100 times now stay away from the SS induction kits there a rip.

The one in the link is the stock assembly you can buy straight from FORD.

just go to your local dealer and ask for a phoon cai or an XR8 snorkel, would be cheaper

Personally, I went for a unifilter rampod, put way down under the headlight with heat sheild and it's perfect, (I know all the APS CAI does is channel air from under the front light anyway), with the difference noticeable when driving. I haven't had a problem with it when I've gone back to ford. but saying that, I also haven't had any problems that they could use that as an excuse either.

Yep definately sounds like the Phoon snorkel is the winner here and cheap too, compared with an SS Induction which would set me back $500.

Will the snorkel be as good as a complete CAI kit?

and will it get me an extra 5-10kW?

I'll try to get City Ford in Melb to do it for me, hopefully they don't stuff me around and will sell me the snorkel & install.

Talked to a friend of mine at a dearler ship near me and he said after a Radiator on a XR8 died in QLD Ford turned the back on the owner because of the SS inductions style CAI that was installed it my local dealership by my friend.

My good friend then paid out of his own money to have the radiator replaced and has now washed his hands of any mods to any fords.

Pull your head in Ford whats a CAI set up going to do to a radiator? stop being like HSV and back your dealers / service staff and for F sake back you customers or they'll go some where else next time.

Yet to hear it anything has changed from my friend yet as to Ford new stance to moding you car. :crybaby:

The SS induction air intake kit has 2 air deflection plates that you are suppose to install infront of the radiator just behind the Ford badge on the front grill. These deflection plates block off the air flow to the radiator and divert it to the SS inductions mouth.

Blocking off air flow to the radiator will void it's warranty every time. These plates are not like a bigger intercooler that still allow air flow through to the radiator, they are solid plates that completely block the air flow.

Go the Typhoon intake if you want the factory look, or for a few bucks do a search on here and buy some hose and cut a hole in your own airbox and feed the hose in under the headlight, just as effective and a fraction of the cost, you can then spend the money saved on an air filter.
