hey guys,

just got a full exhaust put on my N/A XR6 and I have just noticed that in 3rd or 4th gear, when the torque converter is ON (I mean the stage just before it shifts into 4th gear or the highest gear when I am doing about 120km/h), it feels like after I take my foot of the accelerator and then accelerator again, the revs go up very little and then go back down very slightly and then it picks up. now I cant remember if this is normal since I didnt have my exhaust before and it was very quiet but now since its louder it doesnt seem normal. what do you guys think? let me know if you need more info. the car has about 3 months warranty left so I rather get fixed this under warranty if it is a problem.

thanks guys

Sounds like the torque converter locking/unlocking to me.

It's normal.

hey guys, but does the torque converter lock and unlock every time when you back off the accelerator and then gently put your foot on it again at about 100kph (4th) or at about 70 kph (3rd)? I always thought that it lock and unlocks at certain speeds and it stays locked unless you really put your foot like a kick down?

No, if you take your foot of the accelerator it will unlock and coast. It only remains locked at close-to-constant throttle position.

thanks for your help guys, I need to drive another 1 to see if its happening to that as well.

so its normal that when I slightly accelerate at certains speeds, it feels like its slipping a bit (revs go up very slightly about 200 rpm and then go back down about 200 rpm and the car starts picking up). I never noticed this before. Since the exhaust, u can even hear it, it feels like a slightly hesistation in accelaration but only when the TC is locked in I think.

sorry guys, I am jsut a bit paranoid about it since the warranty is finishing soon heheheheh but knowing Ford, warranty means f#%k all to them anway

It seems normal from what you are describing - but if not you'd have a bit of trouble convincing them otherwise.
