Are you sure about that?

I was under the understanding that the new map from Ford gets loaded back into the Standard slot when you load your modded tune into the car?

No, Zap's right, your box only downloads the factory map ONCE - that's why it takes so long to load up a custom tune the first time you do it. If you want to download the latest facotry map you do have to send the box back to CAPA to be unlocked, and you'll lose one of its five lives in the process. :sleepystuff:

This is my understanding on how the Edit works. When you first get the Edit and plug it into your car, it takes the factory map with your car's serial number and writes it to the box under the F tune (factory). This version of the ECU software is hard coded into the Edit until it is reset by CAPA.

This is the Only complaint I have about the Edit as Ford seem to update the ECU's often and it will make it difficult to keep up with the current ECU versions.

CAPA will also only reset the box 5 times before it has to be sent back to the USA. I believe that the CAPA reset is chargable ($75??) and is the same as resetting the unit for a new car.

bugger - that is an oversight then - you think they would allow for Ford reflashes to be stored.

It would be interesting to figure out what they do to give it 5 lives... sounds like a simple clearing of a EPROM... wish I had one to look at now!

Spot on Zap, I think you're 100% correct. I paid $75 to have mine reset after I bought it second hand.

XXXR6T, if you work that out mate, you'll be one popular fella!! If you're to believe what CAPA say, even they can't do anything about the 5 life situation - they reckon that once those lives are used up, the box can still be used but has to be sent all the way back to SCT in the USA to be reset first!! :sleepystuff:

Methink something funny going on. Spoke to dealer this morning about the 2 items. He "thinks one is for a squeaky seat or something" :spoton: & not sure about the other. Said If I call back this arvo he'll find out. Called my tuner, he said not to worry about it. They get updates from Ford constantly & the dealers get paid for doing them.

Quite possible on the sqeaky seat, a mate of mine with a march 05 build T had a squeaky passenger seat and there was apparently an issue with some wires and the way they were routed, they were touching on the frame of the seat and causing it to squeak. It may not be a problem with all, but they may have issued a recall so all cars can be checked over time.

not brake shudder. Had the discs machined & updated pads fitted at 45k service last month at a different dealer. Only done 2k since and brakes are fine although the brake dust is worse. :spoton:
