Monaro Test Drive

The latest one puts out 260kw/500Nm. 1692kg.  The engine feels very solid because its just so BIG....getting back into mine, the engine felt much less significant - although still quick.

Good write up Mick.

Has some weight coming from a Ford man, good to see some around here can see past the blue oval blind bias. l was very tempted by a HSV Monaro last year until l discovered they are only a 4 seater, didnt make sense when there are 5 of us. l believe this may be one if the cars downfalls, l probably would have bought one if it wasnt for this.

Nice car indeed. You should drive one with a twin turbo kit on it. The autotech APS Twin turbo monaro is a bloody weapon to say the least

Thanks Micka,

it's good to hear they drive well as I'm picking up a new 6 speed R8 Maloo this afternoon & I havn't driven anything newer than my brothers VX SS. I was pretty calm about until I read your post, but now I can't wait to get it! Ill let you know what the 6.0L is like, should be fun, as they make 460 odd NM at 1600rpm.

Cheers,

Steve.

I was checking out some HSV's at a dealer today, and the dealer told me what it is - the ones with a sunroof have a 3" lower roofline. I sat in one without - no problem. I sat in one with a sunroof (an older one with the old bonnet) and same problem - insanely low.

Not sure about the head room problem you had because I am 6'4 and I had no problems with head room. But I always put the seat all the way down and pretty much slide it all the way back.

While working at a Expensive Daewoo dealership part-time as a uni student I had the chance to drive em all and I recon they are a nice car!! The 6 speed is a must though! :msm:

not even the slightest bit of clunk or driveline lash at all, in any gear, under any level of engine load. The whole driveline felt very, very refined. I felt a bit embarrassed getting back into my Mk2 6spd T, as it was clunky, knocking, and a very notchy gear change!

hey mika when u were driving in 1st did u find there was clunking or no. Coz some of the previous models ive driven I found that, but not that its an issue to me. It wasnt my car hehehhe

no idea unfortunately. We get cars via the company we work for, and the price we pay per year includes endless fuel, tyres, servicing, all insurance etc etc. We dont look at the normal price...but I knwo my company gets it for....lets just say considerably better than 25% discount when they buy it.

What was the drive away price mick?

None needed...the T is quick enough to blow off the smell...

But I would never buy a Holden, no matter how good it was.

I'm just too one-eyed.

But thanks for the insight on the "other side"

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Me too.......

But tell me, what industrial strength cleaner did you use in the shower to get the Expensive Daewoo stench off of your skin mate.
