Had a go at making an attractive gauge pod, and came up with the attached solution.

I don't really like the SS Induction pod, as I dont think it fits as neatly as the original cover.

Just thought this idea could be used as inspiration for somebody :spoton:

ninka, nice work on the gauges mate that's a real neat job.

Hows this little job Ive been thinking of "upgrade the BA hand grips to BF spec" well almost.

Remove the plastic inserts out of the hand grips, spray them to match the 3 silver plastic strip moldings on the dash.

Somone who knows what their doing is needed as the grips need spray putty to remove the texture and give them that same smoth finish as the strip molding.

Talked to AWC about covering the lot in carbonfiber ages ago even trid to get them to talk prices to do the job for me but got nothing back from them. The idea came to me when driving a mates GT and seeing how cheap the fake carbon plastic looked. Some die hard GT owners will tell you that FPV wasn't trying to copie a carbon look in the GT :spoton: sad realy. Only problem with the real carbon covering was the extra plastic peace on the door trim would need to be removed off the leather and this part is not sold by Ford seperatly.

So what stop me in the water besides AWCs silent treatment, put it this way, door handles grips X 4 + 3 X dash moldings + 4 X FPV only door trims +cover the lot in carbon fiber = a sh*t load.

Anyway back in the real world, silver grips in an XR would tie the doors better with the dash and give a BF look to a BA, can't wait for the motor show to get a look at the grips there in the new BFs for some more upgrade tips.

So what do you think, anyone already gone and worked on this?

Thanks for the favorable comments about my gauge pod, I'm happy with the result :fool:

I had the same thought yesterday, but I think the easiest is to wait for the BF parts to become available.

Inserts on the BA are made from polyethylene, a material you cannot easily do anything with.

Only option I can see is moulding new inserts from resin, and then either paint silver, or if AWC want to play ball here, then possibly cover in carbon fibre.

No easy solution here I.m afraid :fool:

so the silver dash inserts arn't polyethylene?

Don't know if you've seen the BF inserts but they are longer at the top (which makes them taller  ) no chance for a BA fit.

Ill talk with a spray painter friend of mine tonight and get his take on the subject.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I think the dash inserts are ABS plastic (I haven't had them out though) as they are a lot harder and more rigid.

Just make sure you get a plastic promer for PE plastic, as I think you will struggle to get the paint to stick without it :stirthepot:

Talked to my friend and he said that he's sprayed many internal parts, he said he uses a paint additive he called "Flexiaid".

He also said that in time most things painted over will crack and you'd have to re-paint the item again.

Im now siding with slow and steady, on the project and I'll have a close look at the BF at the Motor Show and see what Ford have made the new grips out of.
