I should have mine in a week or so.. well an offshoot. It's a scan-tool for my PDA.

Reads every sensor the car has and also has dyno graph, accel and braking distance meters included in the software package.

Cost, a mere $300, from the US..

Will report to see if it works/how well it works.

PDA Scan Tool Link

They have PC & Laptop version aswell.

I emailed them to see if it would work on our cars and they said it should, if it doesn't I can send it back for a refund.

Our CAN protocol will become the world standard in the next couple of years, and products of this type will be all over the place.

Currently there are 2 that use the CAN protocol and have software for PDA with PPC 2002/2003 OP sys ( my requirements ).

CAPA sell Palm & PC versions..

To keep up to date with all the latest flashes available, you need to register your software, which costs about 1K a year.

Any computer shop should sell the cable you are looking for, or you can Google OBD II cable or whatever. You will get a RS232 connector which just plugs into your serial port at the back.

The unit I am getting has an optional Bluetooth connection which is pretty handy.

But you will need an interface which converts the signal fron the pcm to something which the software can interpret. It has to be CAN protocol, not the 3 other types out there.

Any scan tool you can get cheap will not be able to write ( no clearing of fault codes ), they are read only. The $15k Ford jobbies can do everything.

So Ben,

Is the software you are getting from the USA able to clear the fault codes?

No it won't Ross, but a friendly dealer shouldn't have too many dramas..
