05/09/05 05:57 AM05/09/05 05:57 AM #1 I've just sold my Unichip to some guy in Emerald and the poor fella obviously doesn't have an authorised APS dealer nearby and was hoping to fit the Unichip himself. He thought I would have the fitting instructions, but I don't. I've also warned people that I thought the installation was quite a complex task and should be left to an authorised APS dealer, but I think this guy's quite handy and is probably more than capable of fitting it himself given appropriate instructions. He's tried ringing APS dealers but they won't touch him with a 50ft barge pole 'cos he didn't buy the product through an authorised agent - jeez, some product support that is, I don't care where he got it from, iut's still an APS product!! Anyway, can anyone point me to somewhere I can get detailed fitting instructions, or better still provide me with some electronically somehow? Any help is much appreciated, thanks in advance guys!!
05/09/05 06:41 AM05/09/05 06:41 AM #3 Can you buy the plugin loom seperately from a APS dealer?Would be the easiest option, because I doubt that APS would give out wiring diagrams. No money in it for them if you can do it yourself. Unlike Xede which are freely available.good luck with itmacka

If that is Emerald Victoria, Aps is only a few minuts away from him
05/09/05 07:52 AM05/09/05 07:52 AM #5 It's a good thing he can't fit it! He can't go running your tune in his car!Tell him to take it to an APS dealer, they can fit it and then tune it to suit his car the way it should be.Bloody hell! As if people would just buy a box, install it and expect there car to run perfectly and make more power... Oh! Hang on... They do!
05/09/05 11:30 PM05/09/05 11:30 PM #6 Author If that is Emerald Victoria, Aps is only a few minuts away from himNah, it's Emerald in Qld.Adam, you're quite right re the custom tune too, I'd forgotten how this one had been tuned (I bought it off a fellow forum member who had a very highly tuned car with lots of go fast goodies on it and never actually had it installed in my own car before I decided to go with Edit instead!). Thanks for the reminder!
07/09/05 02:19 AM07/09/05 02:19 AM #7 Seems harsh that APS dealers wont come to the party. Then again, not all tuners that accomodate Unichip are necessarily dealers. Or are they?Reason I say that, is that on my old EF, I had a Unichip fitted in Adelaide with a sh*t tune. So when back home in Melb, I had it retuned by a tuner that had a really good rep.Not exactly apples and apples I suppose, but if all else fails, he should just make up some story where he DID get it from an APS dealer. Might have sold his old car, had the unit removed first etc etc. You'd think they'd be happy to receive the business, bloody Aren't APS just the Aussie distributor for Unichip anyway? It's not like it's their own product or anything. just my 2c
07/09/05 02:58 AM07/09/05 02:58 AM #8 Author Well, yes and no I guess. This guy is asking for fitting instructions, so the APS won't get any business at all. What he might now realise (and which took me a while to realise too, to be honest! ) is that even if he can get the instructions and can fit the Unichip himself, it still wouldn't run properly on his car without a custom tune, which is where the APS guy WOULD get some business.Poor fella, I feel a bit bad now, he's in Emerald and is coming to the realisation that it'll mean a long drive for him to be able to get the Unichip installed and working properly.
07/09/05 04:33 AM07/09/05 04:33 AM #9 Whoops Guess I missed the point with the request for instructions thing. Hope he gets sorted soon.
07/09/05 04:41 AM07/09/05 04:41 AM #10 Well - the edit seems to be the only plug and play these days doesnt it - and only if the right one for the right car when buying second hand (and not tuning). If he cant do it - he can on sell it. Maybe you could swap him your edit box bugster?
