Tyres Only Lasting 20k

Featured Replies

Ok. I have 19s and I have lowered my ute on super lows. I have done only 20k and Im up for new tyres. The back seems to wear evenly and alot slower than the front, even though I spin the wheels every so often. The front wears alot quicker with alot more inside wear. I dont have a camber kit because I only have 1.5 degrees negative camber on both sides, surely this couldnt lead to inside wear? Any clues to why my front is wearing quick and uneven. Would a camber kit really solve my problems.

hard to say, depends on how you take corners and such, could be incorrect poressures or anything.

im lucky to get 12thou per set of rears!! :laughing:

Neg 1.5 is way too much camber. You need a camber/castor kit for sure and you'll get double the mileage. Can't help you with the rears though - BUT I reckon 20k is good. When I first turboed my ZL I burned up a set of (brand new) rears in a month. The clutch only lasted a week :gooff::gooff:

PS Try your W/A at neg 0.5 on NS (passenger) and zero on OS (driver) and castor up to 7 deg ... will give nice feel and response to the helm. Toe at about 1mm in overall.

I always thought it was the other way around. NS = Driver.... :gooff:

Ya see, you're never to old to learn. Today you know something you didn't know yesterday. Now please go tell Lawsy.

:pooh::msm::msm:

PS here's the thing ... near side = left side = port side. You will notice that "near", "left", and "port" each contain four letters. They therefore group together. The opposites, off side, right side, starboard side all have unequal number of letters and therefore also group together. Simple little rule for moi to help remember things like this.

PPS the term near side originated back in the days of horses and then carried over to horse-drawn carriages and then to "horseless carriages". The "near" side being the side "near" the footpath from which one would mount one's horse. Horses were ridden on the left side of the road. Just another age-old convention the yanks had to fook up. Today it is still convention for a horse to be mounted from the near (left) side ONLY. No jokes please about rear mounting ..... unless you're a stallion.

I got 37500 out my rear factory dunlops and the fronts were good enough to go the back, when I replaced them.

This was with 5 trips to WSID and adequaetly warming them before each run.

Should be ashamed of yerself ... just not really trying hard 'nuff eh?

That's really damn good mileage - never got that outa ANY of my tyres EVER!!! I'm VERY happy if I get a tyre to go 30k. I can remember as a young'n not being able to get 20k. From memory I think 12k to 15k was about average. I've slowed down a LOT since then ... :smilielol::smilielol:

Geezus wept............. 37500kms :oooh:

I got 7000kms out of the rears on the fox, and a paltry 11000kms out of the fronts. :msm:

Since then I've gone over to Toyo Trampio's, bloody brilliant and at half the cost of the Dunlop 9000's a bloody good buy :spoton:

Just replaced my OEM tyres last week at 36,671km. Always ran them at 40 psi and rotated them once. Rears were on the wear markers and fronts were a bee's wedding tackle away. Took delivery of this car on 13/12/2002 and have done less than 37,000 km. Pretty pathetic really!
