Cheers fellas, I think I'll steer away from the dealer showroom addons (ie the John Bowe option), unless I plump for Brembo from the factory of course.

The idea of "Ford Service" fitting brake kits on a new car at the dealership frankly scares the hell out of me anyway.

If I do decide to go aftermarket stoppers, I'll have a good look around specialists as you fine blokes suggest.

Thanks for all your help

Brembo is owned by ford and Brembo owns AP racing

The Brembo brakes are the best you can get without a doubt

Ap racing almost went broke and that's when brembo bought them

So think about this AP racing is used on HSV so ford is selling hsv there brakes

Not so sure about that claim, there.

I believe it was PBR who bought AP Italia, who makes the AP brakes.

And yes, PBR supply HSV and FORD, along with just about every other manufacturer in Australia.... Toyota, Mitsubishi etc

PBR make an awesome 6 piston caliper for the ZO6 Corvette, to be released shortly in the US. Rumour has it, these same 6 pot calipers were considered as an alternative to the Brembos on the FPV equipped Fords, but for whatever reason, Ford stuck with the Brembos. Pity, would have been nice to have a bit more local content in the Ford product. And the 6 pot PBR's are huge.... I think they use 6 individual (identical) pads on each caliper, rather than 2 large pads.

Don't know if they are available after market?

cheers

tom

Ofcourse ford would use brembo cause they own them why would they bother with pbr junk

You might want to add a smiley if making comments like that, as some forum members might think you mean that.

Nothing wrong with PBR components as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, there was a problem with shudder, but FORD was too tight-arsed and took too long to fix the problem properly, as it did NOT affect every vehicle.

I've got the PBR performance package installed, which is near enough equivalent to the premiums that FORD also buy from PBR, and they are working well.

so :msm:

The PBR performance packages are better than the premium upgrades available for XRs from what I can tell... ie PBR have braided lines to begin with.... they are cheaper too...

Not in the same league as the big hunkers from Alcon or Brembo... but good value for someone looking for good street driven brakes and not planning any large days at tracks etc... well that's why I bought them! :)

To the best of my knowledge Ford do not own Brembo. Ford no longer own any automotive parts suppliers, they were all sold off. Visteon etc.

numerous forum members have been more than impressed with their "PBR JUNK" upgrade kit for $2300 from repco and so-forth.

basically the same as the ford "premium brake package" cept these rotors are slotted instead of the dual grooved oval pattern.

ford pemium and even stock brakes are supplied by PBR.

Ap's and Brembo's and even for the point Alcon's are the best brakes you can get.

For this point Brembo's and AP are basically as good as each other.

I would not bother going through JB racing or ford for these when you can go to many reputable barke places and get the same product much cheaper.

Race Brakes Aus wide do alot the the race cars you see as well as alot of quick street cars. In fact they fitted JB's First BA with AP's as well as doing the first Typhoon ford manufactured before it was released to the public.

From recolection I was looking at 6 pot Ap's for $4k fitted.

Don't get caught in the trap of paying for some smick marketing pitch, all they are doing is getting these brakes from the same place anyone else in the industry does and charging for a name.

Do your research and I think you will be surprised at what alot of traditional brake /mechanical places can do for you.

Which ever brake package you go out of these, you will not be dissapointed. :spoton:

JB, surely $4k fitted is just for the fronts add rears and your back to $7k.... so the other JB's ask is not too excessive, but yes you could do marginally better.

The advantage I see with this stuff is if you get it fitted by your Ford dealer you may have less dramas with warranty issues.
