great day and the track prep was terrific and good times were a result. Good to see shifty and Tom at the drags with Tom running a best of 12.8, shifty running a best of 12.2@114mph, and I am very pleased with my run of 12.7@108mph

Yeah, good day at the drags.

The XR6's came, they saw..... and they, well, went home pretty happy.

It was my first time out, and I'd have to say, it Ain't as easy as I thought.

With the helmet on, and windows up, and a noisy V8's around the place, I couldn't hear a thing. It's a bit disconcerting, as I usually keep an ear on things when I run hard to provide that audible feedback that all is well.

First run, was a just a familiarisation run .... Got to call it that, as it was not what I expected. Truth is, "Shifty" was in the lane next to me, jumping away from the start. I caught him shortly, but as I noticed him slowing, I thought I'd already crossed the finish line and backed off. In reality, it was only half way. Damn!

It turned out Shifty missed his gear change, and aborted the run.

That was my first win of the day, with a 14.49 @ 74.9mph beating Shifty's 19.6 @ 43.78 mph.... woo hoo!

Next run I was better prepared, got a bit of heat into the tyres, ran the full length and pulled a 13.01 @ 117.27mph. My biggest issue is launching off the line. 60' time was 2.221s. And I still can't hear if I'm spinning, or actually gripping.

Next run was ridiculous. The guy next to me red lighted, and I was restaged for a solo run. Felt like an awesome run. Stalled up to 2600, took off cleanly.... didn't have any delay before coming onto boost, and shot off down the strip.

I was handed a slip reading of 17.09 @ 111.53 mph.

60' time was a ridiculous 6.211 seconds. Thinking about it, I must have tripped the start light whilst I was still stalling up the converter. Damn!

I still had'nt cracked the 12's. And BAturbs cracked a 12.9 with his very first run, and Shifty had already posted a 12.4.

Hmmmm. Got to have another go.

Can't let the UNICHIP team down, these EDITs can't be that dominant! Can they?

Had a chat to guy helping out his mate with a pretty tricked up blown LS1. Apparently, he ran a 10.05 the previous day at the LS1 winter nationals.

Had a chat, and he suggested dropping tyre pressure a bit... So I dropped it to 20 psi. He also said, with street rubber, not to get too much heat into the tyres. OK.

Well. I went out again and finally pulled a 12.81 @ 116.92 mph

So I've finally made the SA 12 second club.

This is in full street trim, with hard deck lid and 3/4 tank of fuel, so I'm happy with my first outing. I must admit I was hoping for a bit better, but I realise that it's going to take a bit of practice.

Car appears to be consistent for top speed at around the 117mph mark, and that gives me hope that with decent tyres, a bit more practice, and a good track surface I should be able to go a bit better.

Thanks to BAturbs and Shifty for making me welcome and showing me the "ropes"

cheers all.

PS Now, who can I see about an Edit?

Nice times there fellas.

Who is going to be the first South Aussie in the 11's I wonder?

Does my 11 at AIR count?

BAturb, you'd have to be pretty happy with that time.

With the miniscule money you have spent on mods (compared to me) you've bettered my time by 0.1 second. You've got to be happy with that.

Says a lot about the edit.

Now if only I can work out what was going on in my runs?

I have no idea if I was spinning excessively on launch? With the helmet on snugly, and my old (deaf) ears, I couldn't hear a thing. Car was not drifting sideways as I've experienced in the past with excessive wheelspin, but it must have occured. I spent 2 hours scraping and cleaning about 5mm of rubber off the inside of my rear guards and side panels.

(Thank goodness I got a free set of replacement tyres from Ford under warranty)

I've been trying to analyse my time slips.

You achieved a best 12.7 @ 108 mph.

Shifty got a best 12.2 @ 114 mph :crybaby:

I only managed a 12.8 @ 117 mph ??? :spoton:

I think I'm going to have to get a bit more practice. With that mph figure, there must be another 0.5 seconds to be shed.

cheers

tom
