Last week I took my car in to MRT to get a custom tune. I supplied them with Nizpro drilled injectors. They also fitted a fuel pump and colder spark plugs. I payed extra for the tune because they have never tuned a car with the Nizpro injectors, so they said they had to fiddle a fair bit to get the callibration right. Over all I am happy with the performance, maybe not as quick as I thought it would be but I wont know for sure until I receive my dyno graph, which I have not received yet. I was told that thier graph wont be a true representation of my peak power figure as the final part of the tune is done on the road and also because they use a hub dyno. I will go somewhere else to get a dyno graph. MRT say they use conservative AFRs. They said valve springs wouldnt be an issue and they dont fit them to cars with these mods, but did mention they should be my next mod. Boost surging is resolved and makes its way to a steady 10psi, although a bit of hard driving and the boost drops, power drops, probably due to heat. Intercooler? The power really turns on at about 3000rpm. The turbo sounds different, its more of a constant high pitch truck turbo. I get wheel spin in second as before I did not. The only things I am unhappy with are, idle is still rough and if anything its a bit rougher especially on cold startup. Also when cruising with a fully backed off throttle it jerks slightly every now and then like it applies accelarator for a split second by its self. Fuel consumtion has gone from 14.5 to 15.5 so its not that bad. The rattle in my poor T5 is getting louder. They said my turbo might be on its way out because it is too noisy when it spins down after the car is turned off and viabrates slightly if your hand is on the pipe. I said it was like this from new and have heard of alot of these cars do it. Would I recommend MRT?.................Probably yes

Interesting.

is the surge you notice when cruising happening around 2000rpm? I can notice when the turbo starts and stops contributing any noticeable boost, and it occurs at 2000rpm.

From memory the edit increases the ramp up speed of the turbos, and I wonder if when the turbo crosses that 2000rpm threshold, the increased ramp up speed means you notice it more.

next time it happens check if you are around 2000rpm.

(And if you arent near 2000rpm, disregard my post!)

Mine surges at around 2000 on the crusie control. Does it with Edit, and did it pre-edit (Stock)

Notice mostly when going down a slight incline when theres minimal load on the donk.

Has to be turbo boost coming on and off :stirthepot:

Actually, this happens with quite a few cars on cruise control, from my experience anyway.

It usually happens when you are going down a hill where the slope is just enough so that the force of gravity pushing you down the hill is almost exactly equal to the force of all resistance (wind, tyre friction, etc).

So its simply the cruise going "oh... We're going faster than we need, so lets use 0% throttle... Hang on, now we're going slower, 10% throttle... Oh wait, faster, no wait.... " You get the idea.

It does this in our Ghia and our liberty. And yes, it is a noticable surge, not just a slight push, a surge.

Infact it could quite possibly be the driveline slack being taken up which is making it more noticable in the T's. The reason I would suggest this, and not the turbo spooling, as the cause of the surge is because off boost the T still produces enough torque to get you allong, without needing to make any boost, especially when only ~10% throttle is applied. So I wouldn't put it down to the turbo itself...

Meh, just typing as I think.

My 2c.

Yes it happens around 2000rpm to about 3000rpm. Only when my foot is completely off the throttle. The car slightly bounces/surges for a second, then all is fine, then it happens again. When MRT changed my spark plugs they said they might have gapped them too small, so I will pull them out soon and gap them to .88 and hopefully fix the problem and the rough idling too.
