Judging by the number of new threads there must be a lot of "fixed" Typhoons out there. Mine must have been one of the last ones to be done but it was all worth the wait.To be honest, I would have gone on driving the thing the way it was and loved every minute. Recently, thoiugh, 1st gear and reverse were becoming a real effort and a little voice in the back of mind was screeming "its about to let go!".For me the fix was done just in time. The service manager showed me the offending clips, and to my amazement one of them was broken. Anyway the gear selection was just one of the issues I was hoping would be fixed. The other niggle I had from the start was the gringing sound at low RPM. A gear box oil change made the noise less noticable but it was always the first thing people noticed when they came for a drive. The people at Ford had been telling me it was normal and that it was a characteristic of this gear box (bearing rollover noise). When I drove the car post cluch fix the thing that impressed me the most was the smoothness of the changes and the lack of bearing rollover noise. I arrived home from the dealership and my wife didn't need to ask me if it was good or not; the silly smile on my face told the story. Its been wet and rainy in Brissy last week so any real testing had to wait for fairer weather. Today was perfect and so was the result in the Phoon. There is less whiffle sound between gear changes, but the in-gear acceleration is definitely improved. By how much is hard to say but the seat of the pants feeling is about 10%. Part 7 of the 8 point TSB (technical service bullitin) from FPV was to rebalance the tail shaft. This has made highway speeds much smoother as well.Well its 5 months old and has done 12000km but this now feels like a new car to me. I have renewed faith in FPV. Congrats. I gather the clutch fix is one, the re-flash another, another must be the tailshaft re-balance......5 more?Let's know what you have learnt.TaBA-PHOON Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/17613-so-smooooth/#findComment-253038 Share on other sites
QikSmurf Member 246 Member For: 21y 10m 20d Posted 15/05/05 11:10 PM Author Share Posted 15/05/05 11:10 PM TBA06:The procedure in place is that FPV have (or will) deliver the clutch to your dealer and then the dealer will contact you to book it in. I thought I was one of the last to get it but apparently not. One of my customers on the Gold Coast told me he hasn't been contacted yet either so I guess I'm pretty lucky.BA-PHOON:I have been pretty lucky in that my dealer and service manager have kept me in the loop with the cluth rollout over the last couple of weeks. As far as the 8 point TSB the cluch replacement is obviously number 1. The reflash 2. The others that I can remember are the tail shaft re-balance and gear box oil / type was replaced. There was also something to do with a radiator hose/connector that needed replacing. I will endevour to get the full list from my dealer and post soon. Its great to see some positive stuff being said about this car. I think the clutch issue is dead and buried now and people can now focus on some serious mods. The car feels like FPV have done a free upgrade already but more potential is out there. One more thing that I think deserves a mention is fuel economy. Since new I have been a little disappointed with the fuel economy of 380-420km per tank. I was getting 450 in the XR6T. Well since getting my car back and inspite of some spirited driving, I can report that I have done 410km and the "80km till empty" chime just came on! (although he did mention the hose clamps!?) - what's the chances they would be choosing only to do the 'easy' things????
