Windscreen Washer Cleaner

Hi Everyone

I have been sadly dissapointed for the last few years with the quality ( or lack of) in what I put in my windscreen washer water. Bug off is great for bugs but completely useless for bird crap and other road nasties. All the others I have tried are in varying degrees of bad.

So what do you guys give the thumbs up to???

I got a little sample bottle of a concentrated washing up detergent.

So far it has lasted me 5 years as it only needs a drop in the washer bottle.

I have never had any issues with paint damage and it will clean sh!t of a blanket, so bird poop of a windscreen will be no problem.

Yep, I use Dawn washing up detergent.

I never thought of adding my own stuff in there. My service dept adds in their stuff and tops it up every time I take it in. It is pretty crap though, especially when it comes to bugs. I'm interested in this also cause my windscreen is usually bug splattered.

15,000k's without cleaning it will do that..

Bar's Bug's white bottle green text work's for me, might have a go at the Dawn washing detergent though...

I just use water.. I have a small Windex spray bottle in the console for hard to move stuff.. I don't use dishwashing detergents due to most have salt added to them.

I mostly use Bars Bugs.

Years ago I used to make my own using "Calgon" water softener, then about 10% Metho and 2-3 drops of a good washing up detergent. All to about a 2 litre capacity.

Stopped the webbing and worked very well as a cleaner.

I remember seeing an automotive tips show on TV years ago. They put some car wash mixed with water, and some dish washing liquid and water into 2 separate mild steel containers and left them for a day.

The one with dish washing liquid had started rusting badly (all bright orange inside), the one with car wash had not.

I would think the same applies to washing the windscreen, only worse because you don't rinse the car after washing the windscreen.

As an aside my T used to take about 4 wipes before a piss weak little dribble of water came out the washer nozzles. I hated both the delay as the dry wipers scratched the windscreen then the lack of water.

At the last service I mentioned it as something I wanted fixed, and the guy said, "yeah the XT I took home last week did that.... perhaps they all do".

But when I tried it in my new Buffoon, I was greeted by an instantaneous torrent as thousands of litters of water sprayed all over the windscreen (well at least compared to the T).

I wonder if it is that different from car to car, or something that declines as the car ages, and the bottle fills with contaminants like algal growth?
