The concept doesn't work anyway.

Evan if you assume everyone does this (which won't happen)

if demand goes to brand A, brand B's price will drop and brand A's price will RISE, so to start with you are paying more, then we make another assumption; everyone keeps paying more for brand A while brand B's price keeps dropping to say the 80c range (keeping in mind everyone is paying $1.30 because we have increased demand for brand A's fuel).

We all celebrate because we have got brand B to sell fuel at 80c/L so the next day we all go and buy cheap fuel, thereby increasing the demand for their fuel and the following day fuel prices return to equilibrium (where they would have been anyway).

All that you achieve is that you pay 20c more than you have to for a couple of months, but feel free 'coz I'll be buying the cheaper fuel for a couple of months.

Anyone notice (in Vic anyway) that the price difference between Optimax and unleaded is now 10c ?

It's not enough the unleaded price has gone to what it has but we are now paying even more for the pleasure of premium. I rang Shell for an explanation and was told my information would be given to the "right people who can answer your question". Obviously they only employ wrong people as I'm still waiting for a response. Wasn't even after an argument, just an explanation. Wasn't going to make any difference anyway I suppose......

As others have said. This email has been going around for ages. (Just look at the prices mentioned! When was the last time you got petrol for 89c?) I won't bother going it to why it wouldn't work. Everyone else has done a pretty good job of that.

And this is no good for us T owners in Adelaide... Mobil and BP are the only two companies with 98RON fuel.

And in W.A. it doesn't matter what petrol station you go to, even if you buy from a shell station, it's virtually all from BP's Kwinana refinery anyway, just different additives.
