Manly winger John Hopoate has been given a 17-match ban at the NRL judiciary.

Hopoate's poor judiciary record and the gravity of the high shot on Cronulla's Keith Galloway resulted in the ban for the 31-year-old Tongan.

The sentence imposed on Hopoate, who pleaded guilty to the referred striking charge, all but ends his turbulent career.
