Do what Ford Australia have told me "PEE OFF and try another dealership"

Is it a lack of power?

If it is I'm wondering if it is a problem with the new update! Our problem might be a solution to their problems of warranty

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

No point, I've tried another 2 and they're no better. The only good thing about the current dealer is they're so close to work at least it's not out of my way. The other 2 are a right royal pain in the ass!

Previously when the engine checklight would flash like crazy, I didn't notice the car acting any differently.

The only apparent problem in the last couple weeks (which the dealer said would be fixed with the accelerator pedal thing) is that when I am coming to a stop or coasting very slowly, the car will break into a 'fit'. The revs jump up and down around 1000rpm, the whole car shakes quite badly and it feels like its going to die. When this starts the engine check light comes on and the car is basically unusable. Turning it off and restarting and it disappears. Has happened 3 times in the last couple weeks.

The car has had no reflash done at all.

After being in the same dramas others are talking about here, the solution to the problems is really quite simple:

1. If you have mods or intend to mod you XR right now - don't bother with Ford unless (with exception to warranty claims). Honestly they don't need your business and you don't need the hassels. If you are lucky enough to find a good dealer/mechanic at your local Ford who is willing to work with you and your mods; you're set.

1.a. If you run (or intend to run) a signal bender then it makes perfect sense that any parametres (ie base signals) Ford alter when they reflash/update your car will alter the overall bent singnal from the interceptor. Please correct me if I am wrong; but aren't we dealing with static values here with the interceptors - ofcourse they wont like rather large changes to the Factory base tune; especially like the last update that seems to have made rather profound differences - jury is still out on the worthiness of these!

1.b. Make a decision about your mods if you are at the stage of commiting to something. There's plenty of options now; some in my opinion offer much better sense depending on where you're heading with your car (ofcourse this will change in the near future again!). Even though I have an Edit, and regardless of what others might say, custom tuning with this is at an infancy stage and therefore is arguably not as efficient for the owner/tuner who is constantly moding their car and needing to retune.

2. If you don't have mods demand Ford fix your problems. Give a dealer a chance and then if they fail go higher. Customer complaints managers hate when you have then on speed-dail everyday to find out what they are doing about getting your "2-week" away reflash to you. But honestly, who bought an XRT to drive around with problems, and inconsistent power? Mod it, you know you want to! :)

Joel.

I've had the same problem just resolved with the accelerator pedal/assembly replaced. Something about it having faulty potentiometers to do with fly by wire throttle?

Engine check light no longer flashes up constantly like before, but the car is still f*cked. Dealer claims my car arrived from Ford in December with the most up to date software and refuse to reflash it period. Getting sick to death of this f*cking car!  Great when it runs but visiting a dealer every week is really giving me the sh*ts.

I'll be running a "Lemon" sticker like Track soon!!! :drivingalong:

Dave,

Put the sticker on, and give them heaps!!

It's a good conversation starter at the petrol station.

Unfortunately FORD AUST don't seem to care. I've emailed photos of the car to them and they didn't care (well not to me anyway).

My car is back at the dealer for the 20th time and has already been there (this visit only) for 3 weeks. Apparently some East Coast Technical troble shooter guroo dude took my car for a drive today. Haven't heard what happened, but let me guess "unable to reproduce the fault".

If they don't care about the sticker, I'll have to try harder, like TV advertisement, roadside billboards, newspaper adds, etc.

Document your visits back to the dealer, and when you have a good number up, write them a letter telling them what you want, or you will take them to court on "failing to provide a product of merchantable quality". Send it certified mail. This got their attention! I'm now in the deep end of the pool, playing for keeps, so we'll see what happens!

I can see myself running up an advertising/legal bill in excess of the cost of the car!

Modding your car is an option, but why should you have to spend extra money on your car just to fix FORDS shortcommings!!!!! It's a matter of principle!!!

Hi all

My car is a bit jeckyl and hyde. Drives well enough one moment and excelerates hard enough, then next time I jump in and go again, could be good, could be dramatically poorer.

I have done CAI mod (second intake and B&C filter) and 3" exhasust from the cat back (INC 3" cat).

If I understand you all correctly (be gentle, I'm not all that smart ya see  ), either a Unichip or edit will sort this out and get me a more consistent car all of the time. Is this true??? :drivingalong:

In most cases yes.

What I mean is that if the root cause is mechanical, then edit or chip will not cure the symptoms. If it's purely a software glitch, then this is fixable.

A reputable tuner will be able to give you a fairly accurate assessment.

Yeah I have been doing this. I make the dealer write a written report on everything they tell me. Mainly because a) I'll forget and b) I feel better making the pricks do more work hehe

Being a fleet car with a very large Aussie company, I'm slowly collating all the info and will go whinge to the fleet managers. Maybe the dealer will pay more attention then!!!

I can't beleive the arrogence they are showing regarding your car and situation. Any sane business would make mends ASAP!!! I've heard people at work who don't read forums or care about cars comment on your photo and I'm in another state haha!!! Shame you don't get 5c for every view like a webpage

Dave,

The arrorgance of Ford is staggering. I had a couple of graphic conversations with them today regarding me car. I won't hijack this thread, so please check out the following link to know more.

I'm glad the picture of my car is geting around, although I fear I now need a larger back window, maybe I should tow a sign board around. Then again that would probably be over the pathetic towing capasity of these cars.
