Phase Two

Had a phase two fitted, dyno at 245rwkw, keep it low to baby the auto until I tuffen it up, using a sh*t load of fuel, but I have been given heeps.

But the strange thing is I ran out of fuel today and the trip meter said I had 25kms to go. The fuel usage is out, but I knew that would happen.

This is the second time this has happened, the first time I thought it was the fuel pick up, considering I was punchen it around a bend, thinking its sucked in air. I have driven the car all the way to 0km heeps of times. This just started when I had the phase two fitted.

So my question is do the new injectors give false readings to the fuel gauage or is it the fuel reader it self?

As scared as I am to mention it in the current climate, you are correct in your assumption as the trip computer works off the duty cycle of the injectors. Although your duty cycle may still be the same (or close to it) at a given rev range the injectors will be spitting out more fuel.

I wouldn’t have thought that it would affect the DTE reading though – but obviously must.

you shouldnt run it that close to empty it will stuff the pump and if you have just fitted you stage two it might take a while for the comp to learn

I ran my car out of fuel about 3 or 4 times, the gauge was a couple of mm above empty and DTE was anywhere between 30-60klms. Took it to Ford everytime, everytime they said DTE is just an estimate, go home.

Then my fuel tank started leaking. Where the bleed valve thing is, it was leaking out of there. Ford had to replace the whole tank (1 piece incl gauge sender). Since then, it's been spot on, haven't run out since.

Since my DTE was off by 30-60klms, I'm guessing the DTE runs of the guage sender unit in the tank as well.

This all just happened out of the blue when the car was around 12 months old.

There was a known issue with innacurate fuel guage readings a while back. Dunno what the cause was but apparantly Ford know the fix.

DTE is based upon (amongst other things) the injector duty cycle. Due to their higher capacity the APS Phase II injectors (968s) have a lower duty cycle than standard injectors hence all of your injector based DTE calculations are approx 30% low. ie a reading of 12l/100km is in fact 16l/100km and so on.

If you have changed pumps, it may be the setup, if not look at the gauge & not the DTE, I have run out with P2, but I got going again as I happened to have a 1125ml Bundy bottle in da back.

I have Phase 1 (with Injectors) and the DTE (in my Lux Pack) has not been accurate since installation (as I expected) ... I am sure an Edit will solve this since the cars CPU would need to be modified to calculate it based on larger injectors... But my fuel gauge (and warning light) seem to be 100% accurate as I assume they measure off the tank itself ... :spoton:

I rarely fill up under 1/4 tank to avoid any rubbish pickup from the bottom of the tank :spoton:

Cheers, Jason.
