Hi one and all, happy new year :w00t2:

The other day I was driving up from Sydney to Croffs Harbor (ie a 6 hr hwy trip if keeping to speed limit and as double dermit I was :k24t: ) about 2 hrs into the trip I had a break, turned car off for about 30 mins. Then turned car back on and was on my way again about 1 min into it I noticed a bad smell :w00t2: (I had the windows down) I put them up and the smell went away.

At this stage I thought ok it was somethink outside, about 1 hr later I put the window down again and again the smell comes back , I put the window up and smell goes, this continued for the whole trip there and 4 days later the way back to Sydney, and now while driving around in Sydney. I have never noticed this smell before and it appears that when I have the windows down the air is pushing this bad smell from the back of the car to the front.

I opened the boot and it was the same smell, when car is idling no smell from engine at all. Note the smell gets worse if I boot it.

The smell is like garlic with bad eggs :ermm:

I will be taking it to the dealer when it opens (damn public holidays), im thinking possible exhaust leak in the boot :o

Has anyone else had this issue???

Thanks in advance (I want new car smell back!)

No it dosen't smell like unleaded exhaust at all,

Just before you say bad fuel, I have since used two different fuels (ultima and PULP from Woolworths plus) letting the tank almost empty before putting the other in, both smell exactly the same.

If its a new car they smell bad for the first 2 months.

Must be the plastics and paint all burning in nice.

If this is your first long trip, and your car is new. I would say its just the new car burnoff :ermm:

Mine was bad :w00t2:

if its a rotten type of smeel it could be bacteria in the A?C system. The dark, cold & damp enviroment in the evaporator is the perfect place for bacteria to grow. This can easily be treated by applying an anti bacteria/deodouriser to the system, just make sure it is going to kill the bacteria & not just hide it. You apply it thourgh the inlet duckts uner the hood & through the recirc duct which will be under the dash behind the glove box.

ZapXRT I've had the car for 4 months with 8000 km on the dial and I've been on longer trips with the car.

Cgae it cannot be th A/C unit as that is the only way I can stand driving the car I.e windows up and A/C on!!!.

Stardust, I've check under the car a bit cannot see anythink and I can only smell it when in the car not outside.

This thing is killing me, I love driving the car but I have to hold me noise if I push it and the windows are down.

I had a sort of plastic burning smell for the first few weeks, only smelt it again the other night after a thorough caning close to home.

PS I like your username & Avatar, damn games had me stumped lately!
