In the USA Ford/Mercury had Cougar XR-7 (late 60's-early 70's) and Merkur XR4 in the early eighties.Poms had Escort XR and South Africa had XR6 Cortinas.Perhaps XR has some deeper corporate meaning- but fukced if I know what it is. :w00t2:

I read somewhere that when they first introduced the XR8 and XR6, that the reason they chose the letters "XR" was because the XR Falcon was the model where the GT was introduced.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

YUP .. that's it! :w00t2:

and XT replaced Forte as the base model designation because Ford wanted to extend the sporting image of the range right down to the base model and XT was the second generation GT.

So will the base model in the successor to the BA be called a Phase I ??? or a SHAKER???

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Wasnt the XT chosen cause the T was for touring (like the GT) and the XR drew links with the XR's?
