Hey Guys,

I have a question, let's say you were driving along and you left your wallet at home with all your ID and driver's license in it.

And let's say the police pulled you over just for a random breath test and asked to see your license, what would happen if you had no form of ID on you?

Do they have a computer that is wirelessly hooked up to the database so they can check your name etc? Or do they do something else?

Serious answer's only please, this is a legitimate query.

My understanding is that you haveto take your license to apolice station within 7 days.

Don`t know if that still the case.

I have never really tried to memorize mine, do you know what happens if you can't actually remember it?

Yeah, they have a computer in the car or they can radio in with your name and date of birth and all your details will appear on there scene including where you live, what car you drive, and any driving history etc . However I think (vic) you will be hit with a fine if you dont have you license with you.

Dont 4get it :spoton:

In Vic you have to present it at a Police station if you can't provide it on the spot, not sure how long they give you though.

In NSW most cars have online terminals that can check your details.

I have not been asked for my license the last 3 times I have been RBT'ed.

The cops can book you about $75 for not having it on you, but they would need to be in a bad mood if that was the case

yea ive heard of this

my old man leaves his wallet in his workute unless going on a trip/drive outside of town.

he has told me that he's been pulled over while not with his licence, but he knew his lic. no. so he was right...

so I guess you just need to know your lic. no. and youll be set

easier way is to never forget your wallet

In Vic, you just take your license to the station the next day....that's it :spoton:

I always thought that it was within 24 hours that you had to take your license to the police station.

In some states you must have your license on you while driving, but not here in SA... unless you're driving a special vehicle like a bus, truck, etc. or on your P's or L's. Then you do need to have your license on you.
