I was also very confused about which way to leap ... but I don't think the chip is anywhere near as important as the tuner ...

Better to speak to the tuner's and decide who you think will do a better job ...

I agree the tuner is more inportant go with someone that will let you have a little imput and involve you with the tune not take your car away in some back room and return later with the prouduct they want to give to you. That said there are some very good tuners for both chips amberley in melb (xede)and spiro in sydney(unichip)it depends were you are and who you can find.

Thanks Shifty and TB240 for your words. I agree with you 100% and as a result I will go for the Xede with thye blokes down at Amberleys. He even gave me a good price of $1295 fully installed, now that's not bad :) Very happy with the professionalism and pride the have with there products.

Thanks,

Rob.

It sounds like EMS would also have a good quality solution available...

that said the Exede and APS chips have a proven track record and you can share your experiences / thoughts with fellow members on this forum.. (lots of free information available)

As I'm in no rush I'm keen to see what this edit can do also..

Cheers,

Miyagi

Either chip will do the job but you must also consider the components that each camp offers along with their piggyback ECU.

As for multiple maps, I can't see why this would ever be neccessary. If you have a car with a certain amount of power, you don't have to drive it at 100% all the time so there isn't much point to getting one.

I have found the lower power map very useful when the roads are slippery. With the power of my top map the car is able to negate the traction control and being able to turn down the power has been advantagous.

This may not be the case for everyone, Steve included, but I find it useful. I usually drive around in the lower map as it uses less petrol. I only use top map to impress people or to really flog things at lights. My lower map has yet to be beaten, the top map just rubs their nose in it. :crybaby:

I cant agree with you more there Geeseman that's why I have gone with the Xede with the two maps. One map for day to day driving and the other however for the high prefomance mode. This is a good point along side with the people who will tune the car itself which is important that we can rely on professionalism.

Thanks,

Geea. :nono:

Geea the reality is that the 2nd set of maps (boost, fuel, ignition maps) is only of any advantage if you're prepared to change over the fuel that the car is running IE change fuel from 98 octane to race fuel.

Otherwise if you have 2 maps for the same octane fuel this means that one map is safe and the other map borderline/dangerous.........it's that simple.

Or that one map is optimum and the other map is less than optimum.............you can't have 2 optimum performance maps for the same octane fuel. :crybaby:

From what I have read, I dont think Geea has said he has got two "optimum" maps, the first "low power", if you can call 285 rwkw that, sounds as if it is a bit conservitive(sic) and safe for every day use, the High end job is as you state, a bit on the edge but is for seldom use, if you want to play be willing to pay, it sounds like Geea is willing to do both.

I think it would be wise to have both done for premium fuel, if you cant get premium, use your head and drive steady until you can, again my opinion only based on observations of previous posts.

PS: in no way meant as a flame :crybaby:
