A/ ss induction kit

B/ fit XR8 airbox with air intake under headlight

Look at BTP site, if I could do it all again their pod kit looks the goods to me.

Hi paradise,

I'm working on the best CAI at the moment it's a bonnet scoop. :Welcome2FordXR6t:

Which directs air directly to the turbo, Preliminary data suggests improved mileage I have it fitted on my car and I am getting 36 mpg out of a 256 rwkw xr6turbo. I will be having the intake dyno'd this weekend on a stock xr6turbo.

You can check out my thread under macka's shaker scoop. Don't pay to much attention the the design in these pics as I have completely re-designed the air flow and it is much more efficient and responsive. It's in getting a ceramic heat coating at present and I will post some pics Thursday of the finished item.

Can someone explain how more air gives apparently extraordinary fuel consumption unless the fuel air mixture has gone cactus and its running far too lean.

If the fuel/air ratio remains a constant or correctly balanced then more air = more fuel.

I've been asking the same questions and no one seems to able to supply answers.

As the car was only retuned 12 days ago and have asked the tuner this question regarding A/F ratios. He says they are fine but suggested to use some kind of A/F sniff whilst driving around. One can only assume that the engine is running much more efficiently because of the scoop and the colder air. Engine temp is also way colder than normal and thermostat is unable to bring engine up to standard operating temp. I would also like to know why my car is getting 36 mpg. My mods are consistant with others on this forum except for the Scoop and nobody else is getting this sort of economy.

Sorry about taking issue but this does not make sense. The amount of power produced relates diretly to the amount of fuel burnt - it is fuel that produces power not air. It is theoretically impossible to get the fuel consumption stated at normal let alone higher power figures without a complete engine redesign from one end to the other way in excess of the mods you have listed. All very interesting. Are the fuel figures taken from the dash readout by any chance with larger injectors and no correction factor applied? Also if you are running below operating temperature your thermostat may need checking/changing as this can cause a dramatic increase not decrease in fuel consumption.

Driving it like a big girl's blouse?

Pedal on the right is the loud one!

Seriously, no idea how you can be getting that sort of fuel economy. Best I can get on the higway at 115kph (syd to melb) is 29mpg.

When I first got my T standard I could get from the dash reading only 12-13L/100km.

Then I got the APS stage 1 kit and it dropped to 9.8-10km/100.

I have upgraded to the stage 2 and now achieve while cruiseing on the expressway at 115kmh anywhere between 7.8 to 8.2L/100km.When you drop backpressure from a decent exhaust and get some cooler air in there the efficiency of the burn cycle improves dramatically regardless of what upgrade kit you get.

Every upgrade kit that is on the market has provisions for closed loop AFR control but manufactures set them to as close to 14.7/1 for good fuel consuption figures so why change them.Car manufactures these days are looking to improve fuel consumption figures all the time and running new cars leaner and leaner to achieve this but as always there is a compromise.Lean burning is the devil that will burn out anything in its way weather it be pistons or valves so new direct injection is slowly being introduced world wide to run motors at say 18/1 to 20/1 with amazing power figures. We are seeing stock standard 1400cc 4 cylinder motors running massive compression ratios like diesals and not lean burning and getting 145kw.Technology in EFI equipped cars now is a truly amazing sometimes.
