Well I got the Corvette up and running again tonight.

It surprises me how easy and cheap it is to work on older cars.

As I mentioned in my earlier post... cost of wheel bearings was only $22 for the set (inner and outer)

The inner seals were a bit dearer at $12 ea, so for $75 (inc GST) I bought two complete sets for the front.

I misplaced one of my outer bearing covers..... I placed in on a retaining wall in the backyard when I did my initial inspection...... Wife went through doing her usual backyard tidy-up and threw it in the bin :banghead:

Anyway, tried to source an original front wheel bearing cover and got frustrated as none of my catalogs from the states showed any details .....

Tossed up going to wreckers...... but decided to try my luck at Motor Traders.

just so happens my 68 Vette shares the same wheel bearing cover as HG Holden ..... total cost (inc gst) $2.80 (and that was for two of them)

That made me smile.

Fitted everything back up, and took the car for a spin.

I was concerned about eccentricity.... whether I had managed to bore out the outer bearing sleeve in the centre. Any eccentricity would manifest itself as an out of round wheel, causing considerable wheel vibration.

Took the car out and everything checked out OK to about 100kph.

rechecked / retightened the bearing clearances and am ready for the weekend.

All up cost less than $100. I'm feeling quite good about that.

I can use that as another justification for keeping the vette a little longer....

if u gave the insurance the other drivers name and rego u wont loose your no claim bonus and u shouldnt have to pay a excess.

if u want to go and see this c*nt I will come with u.

you could also issue him with a demand for payment within 7days and if its not paid u go to local courthouse and for about $90 u send him a notice to appear in the small claims court for the amount not over 5 k

the judge will rule in your favor and he will have to pay or u can go with the sherrif to his place and take goods to the value of or u can send him bankrupt if he cant pay at all. that means he will have to give up his passport and no credit for 7 years and on public record for ever.

I took theT back to MTs today as it would stall for no reason,they had to regap the plugs as a service bullition just come from fords to do so, upgrade computer to latest flash which was released yesterday and some mod to the throttle body.

they said its now fine I will pick it in the morning all is ok now I hope.

some mod to the throttle body.
