Hi guys

I only noticed this a few mths back but since it was so trivial I havent raised it here. Anyway, does anyone here notice (you have to have no radio/CD going) that you get a very slight/faint humming/whirring sound when applying throttle?

standard sound.

It kinda sounds like its coming from drivers footwell but that could be my mind tricking me coz I know it comes on when applying throttle. Unless you were told you had this sound it may take you a while to notice it.

Ill listen closely on the way home n see if I can see where its comin from.

you might find its the turbo spinning up.

Just because the car is not on boost does not mean its not spinning.

or that big rattley thing next to the turbo.... what's it called..... yeah, the engine. Mine makes much more noise than a whirr.

Sorry, nothing useful to add.......

I have noticed this noise as well when applying throttle. It will appear for short bursts

and disappear.

As I do a lot of freeway driving, I also noticed the noise when I was driving at

normal speed of 110Km/hour. It was a very windy day with large gusts of wind hitting

the car, the car would slightly jerk left or right to the gusts of wind and at this time

I heard the same whirring noise.

So I gather it is caused by airflow over some part of the car - maybe the windscreen

wipers or air getting blown past the vents under the windscreen wipers.

Regards

Joe

Is it most noticeable when applying throttle in first and in particular when backing off in first or when it changes to second (auto) . If so sounds the same as mine. Nothing major just one of those enoying little noises that you would rather not have.

It could possibly be turbo noise coming throught the firewall. With an auto there is a big plug on the drivers side firewall where the clutch cable would go through for a manual, this is directly behind the turbo.

When I cut a hole in this plug to hook my boost guage up, I cut it a little bigger cause there is another wire to eventually go through for a trans temp guage, ever since I did that there is quite alot of noise. But I love the sound of turbo induction, so it doesnt bother me.

Dazza.
