The bastards are everywhere.

I cant say where to start, but heres some advise

run these -

This will kill most bad home page and search page redirection feckers -

CWS Shredderhttp://www.soft32.com/download-CWShredder-19014-5.html

Then download and run -

Spybot serach&Destroy -

Spybothttp://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022-10289035.html?tag=lst-0-2

And use the imusine feature -

I find Adaware finds much more problems but only has a fix and no imunise, unless you pay so after running Spy bot and imunising run Adaware -

adawarehttp://www.download.com/Ad-aware/3000-8022-10214379.html?tag=lst-0-2

Install FREE antivirus program AVG and set it to update daily -

AVGhttp://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

If you are still having problems with slow performance etc, go to START then RUN and type in MSCONFIG, click on the STARTUP tab and diable everything you dont recognise, PS your pc will start even if you diasble all items.

Some viruses/spyware etc will try relod them self under different service names etc after you try killing them, I even had on guys pc with a webdialer reconfiguring his pc to dial Bolivia!!! via 0011 number

If you've got a bad one or one that your anti virus picks up but says it cant delete. Try delteteing or renaming the file in safe mode, that way it should not be in use.

Some are even worse and reqiure registry editing etc, ok if you know how but-

But its not easy if you dont know what your doing, Sixdude

Like you can click Start run and type in REGEDIT, then search the registry for a known bad item you wish to delete or, go down thru the registry HKlocal machine/Software/Microoft etc to get to your startup items and check for any nasties loading up in you registry, but unless you know what you may be deleting its best to use a tird party program or toll to do it for you.

Another program which I found good once you have cleared your computer of any nasties is SpywareBlaster. This is good to prevent certain types of spyware being installed on your computer, prevention is better than cure I always say.

Yeah, got them that bad I could not stay on the net for more than a couple of minutes before the pc would 'lock up'. And took ages to load my profile.

Run adaware and got 158 spyware type programs.

Now I run adaware and spybot regularly. :spoton:

I have found the Creative Crochet and Advanced Flower Arrangement web sites the worse for harbouring these spyware programs. :ermm:

Someone did tell me the porno sites are bad for this too........ :ermm:

if u use kazaalite (no spywar) you can download adaware professional, which has a popup stopper, and it alerts you when anything is trying to write something to the registry

I use this everytime I startup, and my comp is running better then ever

Bittorrent is much better for P2P stuff ;)

Anyways, the best policy is preventian and maintanence. Virus Software is a must. If you don't have it Firewall in hardware or software. Zone alarm is a pretty nifty firwakll program and some virus programs come with basic firewall protection. Whatever you do, if you run windblows XP etc don't bother trying the OS's firewall. So full of holes even with the windblows updates.

Adaware is another program I use, running it atleast once a week. Spybot is another great program. Simple to use and reasonably effective. I did have problems with those fake windows messenger adds popping up, but I have been trying out StopZilla for the last week or so and it seems that it's doing it's job.

But there is one thing I have noticed with windblows over the years though. You gotta defrag the hard drive on a regular basis. Sometimes it isn't just the spyware that slows the whole thing down.. Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Defragmenter. Can solve some issues.

If all else fails use what I use on the web sometimes. My Amiga 4000 with Cyberstorm PPC. A 12 year old computer with none of this crap affecting it. Thankful it still works after all these years. ;) I've also found my Linux box is quite emune to this stuff aswell ;)

ive tried bittorrent for that stuff (cause you know the file will be good) but on 56ghey, I tried downloading a 20mb file (small game) and it had 150+ seeds/downloads and I only downloaded 2.3mb over a 10 hour period

I downloaded just over 5MB in about 1/2 an hour using dialup through MSN Messenger the other night (thanks Wayne :spoton: ). On the same night I downloaded in total 20.44MB in 2:51 hrs. I'll never complain about my connection being slow ever again!
