I want to buy a T - but mechanical problems?

I tell you what. Reading some of the stuff on this site, and all the troubles most of you seem to be having with your T's is really making me think twice about getting one. It's scary because if there were no problems I'd sign up for one tomorrow.

But I need a reliable car to drive me 500kms a week just to get me to and from work Mon - Fri. I had hoped a T would fit the bill with a massive dose of fun thrown in for good measure. I can't be stuffed around with vehicular troubles.....

But it's not a cheap lottery to spend $50k and hope you get a good one.....

Or is it just a case that the people posting have problems, but the majority of owners are out driving, not posting?

I need some reassurance guys - tell me it aint as bad as it all seems from the threads here...........

Maybe a list of common problems would help me decide.

What is a short list of the very common problems?

I'd be getting a SSS

Mate, when we go on cruises there might be 25-30 cars :kissmy:

You won't find anyone there whinging about there cars and 99% are in love with their cars

Think about how many T's are out there and how many continually moan :kissmy:

Exactly. You always hear from the bad apples.

I love my T and im sure you will love yours too......to make my situation even worse, I only drive her on the weekend, and even though ive had her for almost a year now, every morning I walk past her, look at her, and admire her.

:kissmy: -> You know what they say, it makes the heart grow fonder :)

Ive only had one problem so far which my dealer fixed straight away.....if you need any more persuading, ill take a pic of the smile on my face on a friday night when I sit in my car for the first time that week :)

Ive said this in another thread..... but here it goes again, you only hear about the bad stuff because the guys/gals that are having problems are much more vocal then the ones that are not. I am sure there are heaps more happy T owners out there then there are unhappy ones.... :kissmy:

That's exactly what I've been thinking - that I might mainly be reading the bad, not the other side. Looking for the problems - it's human nature I guess...

Pinch of salt and all that kind of thing I suppose.

I'm actually lucky enough to have driven a T a couple of times - my Dad owns one.

The thing is though, he doesn't drive it enough, or hard enough, for his one example to be representative of the sort of things that may go wrong with a daily driver. He has only ever told me of the following "problems"

- the diff whine at 100kmph - just drive around that speed and it isn't an issue;

- the starting problem only once. Left it a minute and tried again no problem.

I don't recall him complaining of anything else...

All good food for thought

I have had my fair share of probs, but still love my T. Always look at her and always enjoy getting in and turning the key. Personally I would hang out for the series 2, you can bet that they have hopefully got it right, series 2's are normally better. :kissmy:

Mick and ducatiJB whilst I appreciate you will here more about the bad than the good, which is human nature, calling people bad apples for having problems is a bit harsh is'nt it? What are you actually saying that we are bad people for wanting to voice our frustrations, in an forum of fellow enthusiasts? :ermm:

I think it can sometimes confirm you are not going crazy.

JB...

Manno, you are one hellava sensitive individual.....

You read everything with a chip on your shoulder. (and this ain't the first time I've noticed!)

The reference to "bad apples " is the cars with problems, not the owners.

Crickey. get a life!

And by the way Ric_Biel,

I have a March 2003 build auto ute, and have had absolutely NO problems whatsoever that I'm concerned about. The few issues when I picked the car up were dealt with by my dealer, and the front rotors are only just starting to shudder, and they will be sorted out at the 15000 km service in a few weeks time.

My XR6T ute is a great car.

I dont think its a bit harsh..... all im trying to say is that you always hear from the people who are having problems - bad apples. The cars are the bad apples, not the people. Its not the owners fault (most of the time) that the car has a leaking water pump O ring or whatever the problem is!

Geez, I knew you owned a white car, but ill spell everything out for you cabbies in the future!  Just kidding!

If everytime I had a good experience in my T, this forum would shut down due to overload  But you never hear about those stories. Let me share one now....

I had a absolute ball in my car the other night. It was freezing cold, and the car was absolutely hammering. I didnt want to go home. Loved every minute. When I did get home eventually, I just sat in it and listen to some CD's, just enjoying the atmosphere that is my T. And reminiscing of the night. This story is 100% true.

You never hear these stories, do you?
