I thought I would start a thread about the close calls people have had. Either near crashes or nearly being busted by the police.

Well here is my near busted:

Drove some staff to the Sydney domestic airport today and being my usual leadfooted ways we got there quick.

I dropped the guys off at the Virgin terminal and when I left I gassed it up a bit and left my mark. I did not intend to lay a big stripe, but the road had some puddles that diddnt help the traction

Anyhoo I straighten the car up and what do I see but 2 cops with a laser checking people going past the T2 terminal. They took a long hard look at me, I gave them the and they smiled. All I can say is I am glad we only use Virgin and not qantass or I would have been nailed as I tend to go a bit quick around there...

near busted with the cops ive had, me and a friend were chasing each other round the streets, was about 9:30pm so no one around really...

we play a game, hide and seek, you gotto stay inside the 50km signs but can go anywhere around town (must be on the roads, parking lots etc) and one time I was the hider, and was just slowy cruising around down quiet streets, when some lights came on from behind, and with some street lights around, I turned my lights off, and made a dash, flew around a few corners and went up a small side alley, and parked it in the shadows, and what kinda car comes past the alley, the paddy wagon, lucky for me that it was a dark street and they didnt turn thier spot light on, woulda been done for reckless driving I would say...

found my friend and we decided to call it a night.

close crashes ive had would be in my car again, this would be when the tyres are almost slicks, and it was wet, went around a corner a little too fast (it was wet, having a little fun) and the arse end slid round and I over corrected it, completely spun out and was just inches off hitting a telegraph poll... literally because I put my hand out the passenger window and tapped the poll... as if like saying "thanks for not hurting my car"...

Had probably the closest call of my life yesterday.

I was three cars back along the highway following a mobile crane that was doing 60Kmp/h, we followed it for about 3KM until an overtaking lane came up, nobody pulled out to overtake so I took the opportunity, put it back to third and went to pull out .

I went past one car and the vehicle behind the Crane was a removalist pantec and just as I my front wheels past his rear tailgate (I was travelling approx 95Km vs his 60) the pantec pulls out without indicating, which forced me out over the double-lines. I feinted and braked at the same time, trying not to lock it up. I had to move across otherwise I would've been clipped on the front panel and pushed into oncoming lane anyway!

At the same time there is a car coming the opposite direction...Hard on brakes, too hard infact, and locked it up (sh*ts were trumps Locked brakes, big truck in front and car coming at me) thankfully the oncoming car saw the big puff of tyre smoke and slowed and moved to the left and the car behind me stayed in the left lane so I had room to jink back in the overtaking lane.(I didnt know what the car before me was doing but I took a chance on a rear-ender over a Head-on)

I was pretty shaken after that little incident!

As for close calls with the police? Hmmm another overtaking lane story.

I was being followed by a nice recent red Ducati (900 something) and he overtook me, no one else around and he was sitting around 115-120 so I thought what the hell, I kept a safe distance but tagged along with him.Did this for about 5Km and we were coming up to a slight right hander (100Km). I saw two trucks and a flash of Blue/White behind them but the trucks were obscuring the view. Trucks flash us and Ducati man and I hit brakes and pass the HWP at 100

After that we stayed on the limit til I to my turn about 10K later.

close police encounter happened the day I got my T.....id had her for 5 hours....had all my friends in the car...and I'd left traction control on the whole night cause I was still getting used to the car

stereo was blaring....we came to a set of lights and had to turn right....I was looking out teh window and my passenget reached across and turned off the traction control......lights go green and sureley enough there was a nice fishtale around the corner...I wasnt complaining cause it was very well controled and I was quite proud of myself...in a toolish sort of way..

we drive up...do a u turn to go back to the a friends house and get to the same set of traffic lights and there was mr police man watching the whole show.....hmmmmm...

I turn...he turns...lights go on......crap.... ...not 2nite I say..its 2 early to be getting stupid tickets!!! .....anyway.....by not every1 in the car has shut up and stopped yahooing my effort of turning abilities...

so I pull up....mr police man asks for my licence....asks if theres anything wrong with the car...I say no...apart from my apparant lead foot problem :lol: .....he didnt find that funny so I kepy my mouth shut for the rest of the conversation...he looked around the car....gave me back my licence ....and got back in his car and drove off....phew.....2 close...just 2 close.....

Again this happened on my way home tonight.....

Just because it's 2.30am in the morning Why? do people think its ok not stop at STOP SIGNS and speed straight through them. Twice this has happened in the past month.

If I had left work a quater of a second earlier me all gone.

also, I went through a dip one day at 140 and started fishtailing, scariest thing I ever done, 2 mates in the car and there is very large trees either side of the road... just glad I didnt slam on the brakes cause I woulda locked up and slammed into a tree...

Must have been a good week for everyone here... I had a close encounter with a big fkn truck....

Last night on the way home I had only been on the F3 for a while and was going up the big dipper at Asquith.

For some unknown reason, a big semi had decided he was going up the big hill in the far right lane at about 80kph (in a 110 zone). So a number of cars behinding him - me included, are all behind him expecting him to run out of puff and pull over to the left lanes. But no... he's still gunning it at about 80 kph

So a few of us - me included, indicate and move into the middle lane and accelerate past him.

As I'm going up past him, I find myself behind another car not going fast enough but still gradually going past the truck and here I am between the big truck on the right and two big trucks in the left lane.

So what happens? The big one on the right puts his indicator on and immediately starts pulling into my lane - here I am quick becoming the sandwich. And he is a few inches off my paintwork/.

So I'm blasting my horn like mad and JUST manage to get past the b@stard as he pulls into my lane behind me.

Anyway... I was thinking of what Cro said in another thread and thought, "f^ck this guy" so I get out in front of him and hit the brakes (yes, contrary to my declaring that I'd never do that).. Not slammed on, just slowed myself down and down and down until the b@stard is up behind me with nowhere to go and he's doing 10kph half way up the dipper.

I gave him a shaking fist out the window and the finger and then floored it, leaving him to go through the gears and crawl up the hill that all truckies hate - knowing he would have then taken a few minutes to make it over the top. And man did I feel good.

There's been so many I'll have to pick a winner & return

You folks that think the brakes will lock up need to go to a country road not in heavy use and practice emergancy braking with your ABS.IT DONT LOCK UP,if it does its stuffed..back to dealer...

My first ABS time was on a track day,worked a treat.

My second ABS time saved me from a T boneing,this guy pulled out in front of me to do a rh turn,the car on his left moved to the centre lane pinching his room so this banana stops in front of me,I panic brake expecting a skid ,a slide and a bang but no,I could still steer the car to the left to get around him, unfknbleable.

You have to try it folks .If that was the XY I know foreshure Id be picking glass out of my eyes.

It is a totally new braking experiance and one that you should all try somewhere in safe place,Its well worth the effort.
