Plonky,

Big fan of the Mopar here too. My brother and I are going to have an orange 69' dodge charger land in the next two weeks along with a 'General Lee' decal kit. Out goes the 383 (might put that in the volvo wagon) and a while longer after that the plan is for a 426 crate motor(decompresed for a turbo or two instead of the usual 671)

One things for sure though' , it's never going to keep up with a BA XR6 turbo around corners these things are a fricken tank. Down the straight and narrow they are the best fun, braking frequently around a track is a health hazard. This is where the new technology is king and ford has embraced the advantages of turbo performance where the Expensive Daewoo trevs languish in knuckle draging evny. The japs have been doing the turbo thing for a long time and like you said they have had years to get stuff sorted. We were just held back by blockheads who believe the only true performance motor is the V8.

I thought the idea of putting two auto cars on a circuit was rather stupid in the first place. I mean if you want a car to take to the track go buy a manual and learn how to drive.

2001 Ford Mustang Cobra, '69 Dodge hardtop with 440 Magnum and 320rwkw, Falcon XR6 ute as well as an Alfa Romeo 147.

Shall I go on? :spoton:

426 Crate motor....boy have you seen the prices on those things.

I still get my subscription of Mopar Muscle each month and the Hemi is very expensive. For a big HP Hemi (700+ with monster torque) you are up in the 15 to 20k USD bracket.

My personal preference is for the 440 Magnum with Edelbrock heads, CompCams 280H, Edelbrock Torker 2, 740 4bbl and Pacemaker mandrels with 3.5 inch collectors.

Worked well in my car :)

Started with high comp 10:5 to 1 906 heads with 2.14 intakes and 1.8 exhausts. Easy to find but the Eddies are bolt on HP.

The 383 will easily stroke out to 426 CID. Hemi heads are very pricey.

Plonky,

your right the 426 crates are expensive. We have some friends with family over there (US) and street prices on the 'crates' vary depending on who you know ;). If you look around they can be had for $8-10k US.

I'd like to scam the 383 for the volvo and piss off the oil leaker 308.

440 magnum is a good engine. The 426 is better bottom end wise and it will need to be considering we want to whack some turbo's on and crank it to 1200hp or so. The engine's not going to be cheap, nothing pushing that sort of power reliably ever is. Err..hang on we better stop hijacking this thread with our love for the mopar.

Ohhhhh....so it has :) I just saw then...Thanks lot Chris...I was wondering why the name was blue instead of white....

Go the Chrysler. I love the old US Mopars, they a great old barge and I reckon a nice Challenger, even with a 318 would be tops :)

My aunt has a Jensen Interceptor Mk III with a 440 with a few mods, the best being practically no mufflers, only a couple of hotdogs. Sounds nice...Pity about the pommie car rust.
