Hi all just back from Bris where I had the unfortunate experience of 2 days in a VY Berlina from Avis. :glad:

As I have had an XT BA loan car from my service dept twice I feel as if I'm qualified to give an assessment.

The VY is  compared to the BA.

I have never been a big Expensive Daewoo fan although I've owned a few, compared to the XT the only thing I found in the Berlina I liked was the auto headlight switch.

1. The engine is all noise and rattles.

2. The car is twitchy.

3. The interior styling is outdated.

4. The switches are all over the place.

5. The dash has more creaks than a haunted house.

If that's the quality of the Commode then Ford will keep gaining the edge, also read in the latest wheels mag that the apparent "NEW" engine for the apparnetly "NEW" model is still only a 3.6 not a 3.8 as everybody had been anticipating. :k24t:

Interesting assesment there 'doc.

I just got back from 2 days in a renter from Avis also and was actually suprised by the commo.

Suspension was soft and horrible, and floated around everywhere on the highways around Emerald,Qld, but then an XT Falc feels the same in that respect. Very quiet suspension operation though, with no noise at all. Brakes were ordinary at best, and that nail of an engine should have been replaced years ago.

But overall I was actually impressed with the build quality of the one I was driving. There were no squeaks or rattles anywhere (more than I can say for my falcon) and I though the instruments were very clear and easy to read.

The multi function display in the dash was useful, showing everything from radio station to traction on/off, and gear selection of the auto.

The audio sustem was not very easy to use, compared to a premium audio equipped falc, but then I reckon Expensive Daewoo will use something similar to the ICC in their next model anyway.

I thought the seating position in the Expensive Daewoo was better, I didnt feel as close to the roof, and wasnt peering under the shade band in the windscreen to see the road, which is how I feel in the falcon.

Overall I didnt actually mind my 2 days in the commo, but it made me appreciate the power of the T when I got back in her last night.

I had a VY for 10 days around NZ last year. I can only say it was average. It got us from a-b but it felt gutless and was very woeful overtaking as it made a lot of noise but went nowhere. For the people who have driven around the north island of NZ would know, there aint many overtaking lanes, so I had to be careful when crossing the center line as it felt like a 4cyl. :crybaby:

I even found it hard doing donuts as the car just seemed to bog down after about 2 circles...very disappointed. The Falcon I had however on the gold coast in Nov last year did the best donuts I have ever done in a renta car....

In relation to Holdens new engine coming out I have had word that there are three possible variants of the 6cyl. 3.2, 3.6 & 3.8. In relation to the 8 it will be one engine a Gen 4.
