Is this normal ?

I have a 2 sec delay when going from reverse to drive or drive to reverse or park to drive. Spoke to dealer he said it was normal was way of protecting tranny.

Is he pulling my leg.

I have never really noticed a delay, there could be one. Do you have any problems with any of the forward changes at all? If not I wouldn't think it was a problem.

If you're not sure if your dealer is crapping to you or not, try another dealer or even ask a auto trans repair shop.

When you shift P to D you have to go through R, the delay is there so R doesn't actually get engaged as you pass through it on your way to D. I notice the delay and when I'm backing out of a downhill bit of road I just don't take my foot off the brake until I feel the tranny load up in R. It's not a big problem to deal with.

I have a slight delay, but it probably wouldnt be any more than a second, I have never driven an auto before my T so I thought that was just what auto's did.
