First you need to answer your own question as to why you want to upgrade your exhaust. I understand that factory system is good for 300rwkw. My advice is that you contact Simon at Nizpro before you do anything to the 'T' .
-
T, good response, but I am biased towards Nizpro simply because they designed the Cobra upgrades from first principles and tune their own mods. So, I agree with Jack - it's Nizpro all the way for me.
-
Hey Jet, How mucha it cost to get the 330rwkw
-
Suggest you talk with Simon at NIZPRO regarding the surge, more noticable in the manual trans, but problem likely to be associated with coasting fuel shut-off control. BA II - XR6T 6 speed man - NIZPRO Cobra Stage II upgrade >300rwkw.

My good friend , you are not alone. I have a 2005 XRT 6 man that has suffered engine surge problems, fuel pump issues, suspension creaks and groans, hand brake sh sh sh noises, a gear box that sounds like a coffee grinder and a whining noise that has not yet been identified. So where to from here. Disappointed yes, but having spent $50K on this machine there is no turning back. I have had great support from my Ford dealer which is more than I can sayabout Ford Australia, who only too often brush off these issues as characteristics of the vehicle. Fundamentally it is not a bad vehicle considering its potential !!! But be prepared to to invest some more dollars to make it what you want it to be. Visit Nizpro in Melbourne as a starter and strike up a good relationship with your Ford dealer. They know what the issues are and should be willing to help resolve your problems.

So I admit I am on old bas*ard, but at 50+ still enjoying the power surge of my Nizpro tuned XR6T (6 man) @ 292.7 rwkw.

Exchanged the Ford shifter for the Herrod, and am now driving with the Rip-shifter. All good news, although haven't tried the Mal Wood unit. Rip Shifter is best so far!

Hey jasper361, whats with the Oberon submarine motif, which boat is it and what is your connection, if any?

I'm a 6 speed manual T pilot, and wouldn't swap for an auto unless I lived in inner Syd. However, I would like to know how many of those auto dudes (90+%) have actually driven a manual T that delivers upwards of 290rwkw? Imagining is one thing, doing is a life experience.
-
For my two bobs worth, I would make sure we are comparing apples with apples. I would challenge anyone to question the NIZPRO team and their products. Having just had the Nizpro tune and edit (Cobra Stage 1) there is no way a stock BF F6 (auto or manual) would stay in touch with a Nizpro tuned XR6T (6 sp man) delivering 290+rwkw.

Got the signature exhaust, air induction and suspension. Fitted by my Ford Dealer and have had plenty of support from them. Very happy with the result. I'm not sure about the dealer honouring the warranty, but you will need to check your insurance company. NRMA got quite anal about the air induction system. By the way, you can hear yourself think whilst driving with the JB (Gennie!!) exhaust system. Street Car- Nizpro edit & tuned 270++ rwkw 2005T, 6 speed Man, metal cat, K&N Filter, 2cai, Walbro fuel pump, JB Sus/Ind/Exh.

I've got the rip shifter in my 2005 6 speed T and loving every minute of it. I also had the NIZPRO (Simon and the team) custom tune and Cobra stage one and that, I can tell you, has improved the cars performance and driveability ten fold. Can't recommend the NIZPRO tune and edit enough. NIXPRO tuned and edit 275rwkw and very driveable.
-
And whilst on the subject of edit and custom tune, talk to Simon at NIZPRO. He would have very few if any equals on edits and custom tuning in Aus.
-
If anyone needs any convincing that the guys at NIZPRO know what they are talking about, and in light of Dingah's comments on his experience with Simon , Dave and Ryan, well I just had the 'Cobra' Phase 1 and I now drive an XR6T that I thought I was going to get when I handed over $50K to Ford last year. The problems I have experienced were classified by Ford as "Characteristics" of the vehicle. Not so, Simon and his team fixed my surging problem and gave me back a vehicle that Ford could not do from the begining. Happy, you bet I am. It's amazing what the intellectual capacity of the dedicated crew at NIZPRO can do for your XR6T. In a nutshell, if you are not consulting with Simon and his team you are not in the the same race. 2005 XR6T, 6 Speed Manual, 275RWKW, with a few mods.

Mine acts a bit like a mule sometimes but not enough to warrant further examination. (21,000 Km and 11 months old)

Agree with the change over to Magnatec. I'm getting the gearbox (coffee grinding machine ) noise in first and at low revs in 2nd and 3rd. Having it checked by my dealer. The most probable outcome will be that the noise will be considered a characteristic of the car (just like the surging in cruise ) and will not be touched by Ford. 2005 XR6T 6Speed Manual.

you could just about buy a fleet of BMW M5's for the cost of one Monaro that only delivers 260KW at the flywheel. mmmmm....! I'll stick to the T.

I installed a 3" metal cat some months ago and as trolly indicated it will need a transition 'Y' piece to connect to factory exhaust leading into centre muffler. I went for the 3" because it could handle the flow rate as well as not needing an expansion piece to connect to the dump pipe. Because the lagging was removed from around the exhaust pipe and original cat forward of the centre muffler, I had a heat shield plate (inverted U shape) placed between the exhaust pipe and the undercarriage (foot well) about 700mm long covering the cat and the section of exhaust pipe under the drivers feet/seat area. It was secured using existing resilient support brackets with an extra support welded onto the bend in the dump pipe before the cat. Hope this helps. Power gain was about 5RWKW. Would be interested to know how a 3 1/2" performs.

I got a 6 speed man and after driving the F6 - 6 speed auto (which drives very nicely for an auto unit), I think I will be sticking to the manual. Couldn't justify the $30K change over price on my 2005 T. Having said that I still gotta sort out the surging characteristic caused by the coasting fuel shut-off and the noisy box in 1st and low speed in 2nd and 3rd.

This current Cat discussion and those that have gone before have been very subjective in that there does not appear to be any valid information, apart from the usual glossys, that provide sufficient information for the likes of this forum to make an informed decision on which Cats are best suited to the XR6T. I have the 3" 'Metal' Cat and whilst it is an improvement in terms of rwkw on the factory unit , I would not want to get into a pissing match to say which is the best Cat with out the technical info (test data ) to back up my argument. If there is info out there then I would like to see it.

February's edition of Motor magazine gives the Yokohama Advans a big rap but no prices. 6 speeed Manual Lightning T with extras.

Likewise, I had my 2005 T manual sedan lowered recently and I have now noticed a rearend whine. I'm all ears as to what the cause may be.

I have the clear film bonnet protector. It was installed by Phase 2 Tinting Signs from Canberra - email : zol@froggy.com.au (Zoltan Jorden) may be able to help.

I bought my 18 year old daughter a course at the Sutton Road complex last year and after a few raised eyebrows she went and had a ball along with some other 'P' plate drivers. A great day and skid-pan to boot all in a 1983 Toyota Corolla. I'm booking my 18 year old son on a course this year. Like a lot of youngsters he needs to appreciate what defensive driving is all about before gaining his 'right foot' stripes. Canberra Lightning Strike 2005 XR6T Man with mods. 225rwkw with edit to come.

I'm interested in gearbox noise as I do experience a bit of a growl when starting off in first gear and at low revs in 2nd and 3rd. Any clues as to what may be causing this noise? Lightning Strike, 6 speed, JB Signature 'Sandown' Exhaust, Induction and Suspension, K&N, Metal 'Cat', Rip-shifter.
