  1. I have not read about anyone getting tailshaft vibrations from bad bushes with standard tailshafts, so why would bad bushes be the problem with a modified tailshaft? Bushes do not sound relevant to me, unless I have just missed that it does also happen on stock tailshafts with bad bushes.
  2. Sorry everyone. The last sentence has some errors and I can not edit now. It should say. "I decided to use the Gulf Western Syntrans after another forum member had used it for 40000km and everything was fine as well as not reading anything that seemed to point to any problems using it. "
  3. They are supposed to be "sealed for life" but that seems to mean "sealed till they die". I have read that even ZF says they should be serviced at 100,000km of hard use. We had a ba that I changed fluid in at around 160,000km and the fluid was terrible. If I was you I would probably ask here (as you have done) and if I couldn't get s better answer, I would either 1. Do a fluid change myself Or 2. Take it to a trans specialist. If you can do the fluid change yourself (and are prepared to try the Gulf Western syntrans oil) it is a relatively cheap way forward, but if the box is actually damaged is not going to fix it. I have just finished fitting a trans cooler to my ZF and did a fair amount of flushing through new gulf western syntrans. The oil coming out of my box at around 80000km looked pretty bad. I am glad it was changed at that point rathrrvthan twice the distance. I have only done a small amount of driving since the cooler and oil change and it seems fine. I decided to use the Gulf western Street trading another forum member had used it for 40000km and everything was fine as well as not reading anything that seemed to point to any problems using it.
  4. It seems very strange to me that multiple places that speciaise in driveshafts can not get these right. Is it possible that theoriginal shafts are not perfectly balanced (which is offset by something else not being balanced - maybe the diff yoke?) Maybe the original shaft balance needs to be checked and the new shaft made to match?
  5. Nice result blue oval! Well done!
  6. I think I have read someone post almost exactly the same scenario. Tuned zf Syntrans Flaring. That person said stock tune in box fixed it. Is it simple for you to swap the stock gearbox tune in and see what happens?
  7. I don't know enough about these diffs to diagnose what has happened with your one, but the following might give some insight. Years ago I had an LJ torana with a welded diff. It also had a very grabby ceramic clutch and fairly powerful 202 (triple carbs, extractors, sidepipe, cam, ported head) LJs have a name for weak axles so my car was pretty well set up to break axles. Despite driving on the road as my daily driver and using the car in hillclimbs, I only ever broke one axle. That happened with an enthusiastic take off which broke into axle tramp. Axle tramp really smashes driveline components,
  8. Did you fill it using the proper proceedure?
  9. Some zf6 speed gearboxes have a plastic sump with the filter built in. I am not sure which cars got which sump, but my g6et has a metal sump already and I am pretty sure it came like that You can replace the whole plastic sump with one the same, or get a metal sump and a separate filter. This means next time there is a gearbox service, you just need a new filter.
  10. Yay! Got the filler plug loose tonight. I left the car running for about 15 mins, which got the gearbox pretty warm, sprayed a little penetrating oil, and it came out relatively easily with a socket on a decent length bar. Can not believe it was so much easier than last time. Thanks for all the tips.
  11. I do have an 18v screwdriver which has rattle gun action. Worked amazingly well putting screws into our hardwood fence. I will give that a go.
  12. I am worried that the hex hole in the filler plug might get rounded off with too much force. I bought a new set of kincrome "allen key" sockets and some perpetrating oil tonight so might try again tomorrow.
  13. I tried opening the fill plug on my zf yesterday and it was REALLY tight. I am worried about stripping the socket in the plug. Does anyone have any tips for successfully removing the plug? Is it better with the gearbox hot or cold? Penetrating oil? Any tips gratefully accepted.
  14. I got halfway through fitting a transmission cooler today. The idea of a ZF milkshake is very unappealing! I got the cooler in place with the lines running into the engine bay, but not hooked to the transmission yet. Hopefully tomorrow. I don't like the fittings into the gearbox as I think the outlets are too small. They are the brass angled ones. Once I get the original cooler and lines out, I will probably redisign the whole thing, but ditching the original cooler is priority number one.
  15. Excellent! Glad it got sorted.
  16. I had something very similar to that with an AU Fairmont Ghia. Pull the relay, and swap with another one and it would start for a while. Was driving me nuts, Turned out to be crystals on the battery terminal. Hot water cleared the crystals off and everything has been fine since.
  17. Thanks everyone for your contributions. My thoughts are. I like the idea of a cooler mounted behind the sill I don't really like the alternatives of trying to fit near the inter cooler or behind the foglight and the area behind the sill seems quite large and might fit a cooler nicely. The finned radiator type coolers should be good with airflow through them, but might not get enough air flow through them sitting in traffic on a hot summers day. They also are fairly thin metal and might get damaged from a rock or debris on the road getting flicked up. I saw a cooler of some type at the wreckers yesterday that looked like it might be good. It seemed to be just a long pipe bent into 3 "U" shapes with exta little lumps attatched to the pipe (presumably to increase surface area for heat to get into the air. It looked like it might fit nicely behind the sill (I would have to measure to be sure) and should not have any air flow issues while standing still. It also looked pretty tough and I think was larger than the 3/8ths that a lot of coolers are. I would like to look into the heat dissipation of that cooler but it might be good. I don't really want the whole furious kit as I want to do something different and dont want to spend $90 on 2 little fittings. I might either get a fitting made up like the original pipe has, or cut the pipe and put an adapter into the pipe, or find an adapter for the other end of the pipe ( where it clips onto the factory cooler).
  18. I am wondering what type of connection is used in the side of the zf gearbox for the original cooler lines. Does anyone know if this is a standard type of fitting or proprietary?
  19. I just had a quick look under my car, and it looks like there is one hole through the chassis rail, but not a second one. Does CMS drill a hole through the chassis rail?

Mine is stock as a rock.
  21. Have you considered fitting it yourself? That is going to be best for your budget! You could also look at finding the best deal for getting it delivered to you and get a local garage to fit it.
  22. If brake is applied to a single spinning wheel, that will transfer power to the other wheel (via the diff), sort of emulating a limited slip diff. Not saying it will negate the need for a real LSD, (and the idea of getting one has already crossed my mind), but not having an LSD might not be as bad as you would first think
  23. A sort of relevant question.... How does the traction control in a G6ET operate? Does it just cut power from the engine, or are brakes applied to a spinning wheel too?
  24. Thanks for the welcome everyone! I will get some pics up at some point. For now: Its "ego" with black interior. GeCe6, I think you might be right. I just came back from a drive now (11:30pm) I am pretty sure that after seeing mine, my dad will have one soon too. I have been suggesting one to replace his V8 Calais for a little while. I did not think I would end up owning one. A good mate of mine is mighty impressed as well. Would not be surprised if he gets one down the track.
  25. Hi Everyone, Despite only joining the forum recently and my username having "XR6T" in it, I have just purchased a 2009 G6ET! I was looking for a BF1 or BF2 xr6t, but the ones I saw were either pretty bad or did not get approved by my wife. She wanted something "nice", so we went and looked at a G6ET just to see if it would fit the bill. We both loved it and ended up buying it.
