Thanks Ralph It says - Maximum pressure drop on engine shutdown is 10% in 10 seconds - does that mean it should only drop to that and hold there till next start up or does it keep dropping down after that ? My car drops to 50psi at shutdown and holds there for about 5 mins ( if I start it up inside that 5 mins it starts straight up ) but as it looses more fuel pressure the longer at cranks. Also when the pressure has dropped away and I prime the pump again to start it, could it cause an air lock between the pump and regulator making it hard to start (empty fuel rail ) ? Any comments appreciated Cheers Martin

It was good after first tune, but after getting CAT taken out, it started having the long cranking problem. Was already booked in for retune for the cat removal but tuner could not fix it (no issues while on the dyno). Could the exhaust shop who removed the CAT have got a power spike which has caused the issue?. Its been to Ford and they checked for codes, cleaned the T/B and told me it was fixed. Still the same. My tuner has gone, shifted to Aussie (no idea why LOL) and Im having trouble getting hold of the new guy who took over, to get a copy of my VCM tune (he has never tuned an XR6T) so im trying everything now short of getting a new tune $1300..... cheers

If you have a check valve in the line and it still looses pressure at the fuel rail, what can be the problem? Regulator leaking when stopped? My rail has no pressure inside an hour after stopping, and it cranks for ages before firing up after about sitting for about ten minutes. Going to get the tune looked at but just looking at all options, cheers

As in my last post, how long should the fuel rail hold pressure after stopping engine ? Is it different with each car ?Would be good to know!!! Cheers

Yes, primes every time. I have tried starting it before priming, half a prime, full prime, 2 primes and everything in between. My tuner has tuned it before and after this problem and he couldn't find a problem in the tune(Speedworks Palmerston North, NZ) Dont know what to do from here Cheers Martin

So it wont cause starting issues? What else can cause it to crank for a long time before firing? HELP ME PLEASE!!!!! I thought they would hold pressure for a few days, not lose it all inside an hour!

Hi, an update. Today I put a fuel pressure gauge in the fuel line. It primes to 50psi and when running it sits on 60psi at idle. When I turn it off it drops straight to 50psi, after 5 mins it drops to 40psi, 30 mins its at 25psi, 1 hour its at 0psi. I have a check valve in the line so its not going back to the fuel pump. Can it leak past the regulator back to the tank or is it more likely a leaking injector?.. ( injectors were new 6 months ago ). Car has done 170,000ks and I have owned it for the last 10,000 so I dont know what has been replaced other then what I have done. Any help will be appreciated. Cheers Martin

New fuel filter after this problem started, also plugs BKR6EIX? and a new battery( old one was 4 years old ). Ford had a look at it also and cleaned the throttle body, told me it was fixed, I brought it home and I started it an hour later and it did the same thing. Its OK if you start it straight away after its been running but if you leave it for awhile its rubbish starting. Hope this makes sense Cheers

Thanks for the quick replies. Is there a quick disconnect where the fuel line joins to the regulator underneath? I dont want to pull things apart until I am sure I know what I am doing. Cheers Martin

Car has been hard to start for awhile now(cranks up to ten times before starting). I have mentioned this in previous posts and J@SNOT had said to try a pressure gauge to test if it is holding pressure when not running. I only want to mount it temporarily to see what it is doing. Is there a simple way of mounting it like "T" into the rubber fuel line or does it need to be between the regulator and rail? Cheers

I took a closer look at the pic, is that just "T"ed into the rubber fuel line? Looks alot different to mine obviously

Hi, I am going to put a fuel pressure gauge in the engine bay of my 04 XR6T. Where is the best place to "T" into the fuel line. My engine bay is standard. Pics would be good too,if possible. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks Martin.

Does the new pump have a non return valve in it? Fuel rail could be loosing pressure and emptying back into the tank without one!!!
