Bf Mk2.5 Home Build - 309Rwkw On 15Psi
IT15ON replied to IT15ON's topic in High Power Builds (300+ Club)
I hadn't considered rapid, does look very similar to that. Did they often run out of puff around that power level? In the heat of the moment we didn't bother with a sheet. Figured we would be back pretty soon to get it fixed up then get one, may be able to get it emailed to me if we are really lucky & you're interested? -

6psi from turbo housing to manifold yep, I'm 99% sure we are rag free but I suppose I can't completely say so without double checking. Won't be pulling it all off until the new cooler arrives though... It could be a beloved Monza or the HDi or anything? As above it came off the wrecked white bf in pics, I'll buy a happy meal for anyone who can identify it -

Was 21psi at the turbo housing, which made 15psi at manifold, so 6psi drop. Leaning towards a plaz tube & fin 1000hp in black at this stage, should do the trick!? -

Hi Rob, Looks like a great street setup you have! Did you ever end up putting sound deadening in the airbox? I assume the exhaust video was with the turbo side box and no sound deadening? Considering which way to go with mine, turbo side with some soundproofing or just stick with a plastic airbox. -

Made 320 rwkw pretty quickly on 15psi, but no more to be found. Wouldn't make more boost or power. Chucked an extra map sensor on the turbo and saw 21psi there, for 15psi at manifold. The cooler was a bit of an unknown but it looks like I am in the market now. Got to take a look at the usual suspects and see which will suit my needs and budget. The cooler currently in my car came from the auctions with a very unhappy falcon attached. This car had atomic rods, oil pump, pw surge among other things so the assumption was that the cooler would be up to scratch, turns out maybe not so much... -

I agree it's dyno time now. Our previous dyno has moved so trying to organise another one we can hire at a reasonable rate. Lot of places get upset when you want their dyno and not their tuner! -

Gunnedah drags was a good outing, made it to equal 3rd in eliminations which I was happy with after a few inconsistent qualifiers. I couldn't manage to run any quicker than last visit! The power wasn't going to the ground at all. After a few slow runs tried starting in 2nd gear and got the fastest run of the day. Had to take it slow, as a hard 2nd gear launch led to smoking the track too.. Car has to be a bit stronger than before if I can close enough to match my previous et without using 1st gear this time. Sydney soon... -

The final result today! All assembled and ready to go. Took it out for a run and changed the airflow maps, car feels nice and happy. Will add a little boost tomorrow but certainly feels good at the moment. Don't want to make any big calls without data, but Saturday at the drags will be the proof..... Before and after pics: -

Thanks guys, very happy with the look alone, it's a mile better than it was. Glad to get rid of the old crossover setup and move forward with something a bit different to every other BF on the road. I decided not to bother with the exhaust manifold for now, I am running aftermarket dump and exhaust as is, moving the lot around is too much bother while doing all this other work. Made a bit more progress today, I am waiting on some black silicone from ebay which is driving me up the wall as it would stop everything. Ended up sourcing a lovely "defect me" blue piece locally so we could continue and start making pipe bends fit. So the front bar came off and we started trial fitting here and there. After a bit of convincing all seemed to line up and welding began. We are going full custom cold side, running behind fog light, up under the headlight and then to TB. Welding selfie - look mum, no hands!! I clearly take selfies every day, such technique... We also sorted out vac lines and BOV piping, along with extending the boost sensor loom to the new location, from battery area to TB elbow. The pipes are all ready to go now and will dry overnight, painted black to match everything else, except the blue elbow - hope the black one arrives tomorrow! -

Sunday arvo we made a start on the car, plan being to get all this new gear on and tuned ready for racing this weekend. First up we wired the FG throttle body in roughly to test. After a quick check all seemed fine, and so the car was pulled apart. After a bit of persuasion the manifold was off and we took a chance to compare the two side by side, you can see just how much simpler the FG one is compared to BF. The throttle body is also a lot different in size, the FG is tiny compared to BF. I can see why guys have bonnet clearance issues running a BF TB with adapter plate on the FG plenum. We are using the FG TB to avoid the issue. The FG plenum was trial fitted but hit the hard lines below the thermostat housing. We found a tool in the shed that would sort this out..... Once the plenum was in the wiring was finalized. BF TB runs two plugs off the loom, whereas the FG is all in the one plug. We had to redo some wiring to make it compatible, but overall worked out being a fairly straightforward job. New KPM 1000cc injectors are also going to make life easier, a full data sheet will be very handy, and they were ordered in FG size so bolt straight in to the FG rail & manifold with no spacers. The whole show bolted in looking a lot neater than the old crossover pipe setup. The new injector data was used along with new FG TB gain settings, before a test start. Got it going first try!! Next step is custom cold side piping to suit then the road tuning begins..... -

A bit of an update. A few things have been happening the last few weeks. I have been driving a stock bf turbo for a while, and Tim has been kind enough to babysit my car along with doing some more road tuning and more importantly the new engine mounts have been fitted! Today was a big day. I have left my job and have a bit of time up my sleeve. Today was also the day that my new FG plenum arrived!! It has some minor damage but should be fine. I have been wanting to improve the piping setup on the car and when we realised these things are worth about the same as a throttle body relocation kit the decision was made to give it a go. The final cost will be a bit more but it should be a massive improvement in intercooler piping and hope to see throttle response improvements too. I am also considering running FG ID1000 injectors to get the car running a bit smoother in the "daily use" range, flick these cheap 60 pound jobs. I would have to space the current injectors to fit in the fg rail anyway but chance to upgrade and hopefully improve the car. The plenum came with fuel rail and reg which should make life easier. Next step is to decide between custom cold side piping or adapting a pre made kit to suit. Once all that is done the plan is to do a DIY turbo side intake and airbox and get rid of the under battery intake. An FG exhaust manifold has been considered but not sure if it's worth the bother messing around trying to make it fit with my current exhaust. Finally when all this gear is finished we will get it back on the dyno and hopefully pull a fair bit more power than last time, then back to the track of course! Pretty keen to get stuck into this manifold and try something new. -

My mate has been looking into WMI as an E85 alternative as it is not available in country areas too, thanks for a great write up. Looks like you well and truly got a result for all the hard work! What do you think the total cost of parts was in the end, shipped over here (before tune)? -
Just read start to finish, good to see you have gone so far with the car. Think I may have seen it in the staging lanes but didn't realise just how much of a sleeper it is! Was modball a good experience/would you do it again? Looks like it got you a bit of tv exposure which is always good

More racing has happened! Only got 3 runs due to a very busy night and a couple of clean ups on the track, but got the 60' down a bit which was the aim, and it ran nice and consistent. Still a bit to be made up in the 1st to 2nd change, but happy with the result for the night. This was launching with 6psi on the 255 et streets Going in for some fresh engine mounts next weekend along with some minor street tune touch up work and some Nitto Invo's for the rear -
I have driven only the petrol I load - steer clear - diesel would be way better but the petrol is very underpowered in my opinion!! As stated above the Euros are worth a test drive. I used to sell Peugeot (citroen) vans and they were decent to drive, I would expect the Renault product to be very similar. VW also has some nice commercials worth driving. Just depends on what work it has to do and budget.

We ended up running it for a while with bonnet up and both fans on to circulate coolant and cool. Made a good difference. Not that it was boiling or anything but enough to kill power. Now that the cooler thermostat is in that should help too, but definitely will keep bonnet up as you said. I'll keep an eye on temps and depending how happy it is might let it run or if I get serious I'll stop being lazy and push -

Very happy with the result - wanted to run an 11 and made it! It was an interesting night, we had data logging gear and learned a lot. The car was reducing throttle input on the start line when stalling up so I was only leaving the line with around 34% throttle and not enough boost. This has since been resolved last night on the street so I am expecting to get the 60" down next time. Good smoke = good runs was the other main lesson, getting that bit of extra heat in the tyres made them hook up nicely. The coolant temp was also quite high during the middle of the night, because it wasn't getting the airflow, just sitting in staging lanes heatsoaking before a run. First run of the night was a 12.0, then went to a 12.3 with heatsoak. It was pulling timing to reduce knock because of the heat during a slow run. This was quickly resolved by turning the fans on permanently and circulating coolant between runs, which got the temp down and allowed the 11 sec pass. Last night an 82 degree thermostat went in and fan settings were adjusted to suit. Can't wait to get back out again and see how it goes, aiming to stall to about 6psi for launch (on 255 ET's) and see what that will achieve, along with cooler temps. -

I'll give your technique a shot next time I head to Sydney. The setup at Gunnedah doesn't give enough space to run without crossing the beams but you get the idea. I get the idea with the smoke, that's about what I was getting at Gunnedah on a couple of runs, repeat repeat repeat. -

Sounds like he is going pretty well, I'd be very happy with those times if I can get that out of mine. There is clearly a lot of room for improvement in my 60" still. I think that's where a lot of the difference is. The best 60" I got for the day was 1.974. I am on ET Streets but we are looking to run lower pressures next time around. I was running 22psi. I think there's improvement to be made in the driver too though which will account for some of it. Does he run those times on a regional airstrip style track or a proper prepped drag strip? Is he on here anywhere with his story? One other thing I am still not sure about is how big a burnout they like. A lot of guys my age smoke the hell out of them but I don't think that is helping at all. A bit of smoke to warm them up but still working out what is enough/what is too much. All good fun, it's good to have a target to aim for time wise.
