1.
Hey shockwave, you got me thinking.. Maybe a group service?? Everyone can do with a service, maybe a full service from a site sponsor or a reputable place? i dunno justn idea...
Sounds like a great idea.
2. Here's some crappy ideas for group buys: 1- Spark Plugs (NGK Iridium and lots of cheap NGK BCPR6E); 2- DBA 4000 wiper slot rotors (front & back); 3- Low profile car ramps; 4- Seat covers (ford waterproof ones).
3. I have had the same knocking noises in the rear suspension for nearly 3 years. Ford know about it (its called shocker knock), even replaced the shockers once but its still there. I'm tempted to get some blisteins or similar to get rid of it as its ruining the otherwise excellent ride. I think all the xr6t shockers are prone to shocker knock so maybe your issue is the same?
4. I've just bought some bottles of Nulon 15w50 synthetic oil. Nice 20 bucks off.
5. Goldie, when/if you are down in Melbourne, please let me know. I'd like to drool over your award winning beast. Congratulations for yet another award.
6. Be careful though. Ensure that the ford dealer you get them replaced by has an on-car tailshaft balancer. I had my T in for 4 days before the buggers called Ford and realised they didn't have the tools to balance the tailshaft.
7. I have had excellent results with Shell Helix Plus semi-synth 15w-50 changed every 7.5k with a PureONE oil filter (comes coloured in metalic shockwave blue as well). Engine runs quiet and smooth in cold or hot weather. Certainly much better than crapsol magna-tek. Willing to try the Nulon stuff if someone could kindly help me get trade price... Where is Nulon stocked in Melbourne?
8. I would say that its most likely the oxygen sensor being faulty. One way to test is on a cold morning, start it up and put it immediately in reverse. If it starts coughing and spluttering for a few seconds after until you add a bit of gas then its running too rich in which case the oxy sensor is buggered.
9. Love it!
10. Bump! I really want to change my diff oil this weekend so any help would be very much appreciated!
11. Its called weight reduction. Wouldn't be surprised if some of the internal ZF parts were tough moulded plastic either. Every extra kg counts.
12. I have read alot of posts about use of Shell LS90 for the XR6T diff. I'm trying to get my hands on it in Melbourne and its not easy. There seem to be two varieties now: Shell Spirax A 90 LS High quality heavy duty axle oil for limited slip differentials Product Code: 001A9644 Shell Spirax AX 90 LS High quality severe duty axle oil for limited slip differentials Product Code: 001B3361 I think the second will be better due to added anti-wear additive. Can anyone pls help me with finding 2L of this stuff in Melbourne? Also, what's the approximate cost? Thanks heaps.
13. Not sure its the same noise but I had a "crack" noise whilst gently accelerating from the front. It turned out to be some suspension component not being tight enough. Took darn fools 3 goes to get it fixed.
14. Excellent wax job. Amazing its so clean considering the environment its in.
15. What's the service history like on your car? I'd recommend having the fuel filter changed, pump screen clean and replacing the O2 sensor. What fuel do you run in it? ← usually a 95 octane. mainly vortex. service history is good as it's ex telstra fleet ← so what u mean to say is that it was run on 91 octane all its life?? total fuel system clean buddy.... ← you know I didnt even consider that aspect of the telstra fleet. I think you might have hit the nail on the head. ← Telstra Fleet allow Opticrap and Mobil 8000. No 91RON but 98 all the way.
16. Redbook must have their head in their backside. :-) I cannot find anything on carsales, tradingpost etc. which is similar for under $29k. Plenty of modded & thrashed turbos out there. Seriously, I'd love to be able to buy one at that price!
17. Need your advice guys! I have a leased XR6-T that's nearing the end of its 2 year lease and I'm planning on buying it out. Problem is that the quote they gave me seems a bit high and I want to get some opinions on what you think its worth. - XR6-T Aug'04 MK1. - 35,000 Kms - Options: Premium Sound. Pristine condition, serviced every 7,500 kms (second service in between Ford scheduled service intervals). So how much would you pay for this beast?
18. I was also thinking that the fuel tank is loose! It seems we have the same type of noise. Let us know if you get to the bottom of this.
19. I can tell you all that I had new shockers put in by Ford under warranty and ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE! Must be some suspension bush.
20. Thanks for all your help guys. I might remove it and see if there's any crap built up on it (carbon, dirt etc.)
21. I think my XR6T is burning too much fuel... When its stone cold, starting it and immediately putting it into reverse seems to flood the engine and it starts to cough and chug (I can smell the petrol). Reading other forum posts seems to point to the Oxygen sensor being at fault. I have been to Ford and they tell me the computer is not reporting any faults with the Oxygen sensor, so it must be fine. The usual "tested and OK" response. Could someone point me to where the oxygen sensor is, how I test it and how much it might be for a new one?
22. Shell Helix Plus 15w50 works a treat for me... c**ps all over mineral "Magna"-tech. If you stick with Ford service oil (they use castrol 15w40 mineral crud) and had 15K oil change intervals then I wouldn't be surprised why the turbo bearings have gone. You're gambling with 15K service intervals with any car, let alone a turbo.
23. Well, interesting news. Got some noise at the rear for some time now (hollow knocking sort of sound over undulations - hard to explain). Went for a test drive under warranty and they mentioned its a known issue and they're replacing the rear shockers with new ones. I've only got about 30K on the dial. Have you guys had similar problems with the shockers?
24. I have a set of ramps for my old car but I can't drive the XR6T up them as I'd rip the front bumper off. This may seem a silly question, but apart from jacking her up, has anyone come across a set of ramps that are "low profile" so that you can drive a XR6T (not lowered) up them? If you have, can you tell me where you bought them from? If there aren't any, the patents mine! >:-)
25. The "cracking" noise is similar to the power steering rack crack which I had fixed a few months ago. But the difference between the two is that the power steering crack only occured when turning at a standstill, but this crack occurs when accelerating from a standstill. Weird, but maybe they really are related? Regarding the hollow sound, its definately not a squeak. It sounds more like a worn bush with a stabiliser bar wobbling about within the rubber bush when driving over undulations. That's about the best way I can explain it. Maybe its also sh*tty shock absorbers - Ford mentioned something about issues with shockers in the BAs, but didn't say whether my shockers were at fault, or some other suspension components.
