  2. I got the FEW-8. It's not the best sub in the world, but it (like everything) was a compromise - it was cheap ($130) decent quality and required no modifications. Depends on what you want.A bit of a comparo - FEW-8 on the left, FEW-8DVC on the right Magnet Structure: 60 Oz Magnet Structure: 60 Oz Power Handling (MAX): 200 Watts Power Handling (MAX): 200 Watts Voice Coil: 1.5" Kapton SVC Voice Coil: 1.5" Kapton DVC Impedance: 4 Ohms Impedance: 4 Ohms per coil Free Space Response (Fs): 31 Hz Free Space Response (Fs): 31 Hz Efficiency (1W/1M): 89dB Efficiency (1W/1M): 89dB Frequency Response: 28Hz-4.5kHz Frequency Response: 28Hz-4.5kHz Mounting Diameter: 7.04" / 179mm Mounting Diameter: 7.04" / 179mm Mounting Depth: 3.46" / 88mm Mounting Depth: 3.46" / 88mm Outside Diameter: 8.27" / 210mm Outside Diameter: 8.27" / 210mm Not a lot of difference, except dual voice coil (DVC) on the FEW-8DVC Panda
  3. I just had a look on the Fusion website. The speakers I was talking about are now 'old' speakers - what a pity!! They were f*cking excellent.Fusion 5x7 Component Speakers Panda
  4. Fusion = good If you can stretch the funds, go for the Fusion 5x7 components for the front. I don't have it (too expensive for me) but I heard it and it sounds spectacular Panda
  5. I have the same problem. The only way to fix it is to install the 'ATI Control Panel' off the CD that came with the Arcade VGA Card.Theis will give you the ability to move the screen around, resize etc The only resolution you can have is 640x480 Panda
  6. If you are using the Arcade VGA card, you don't have to do any configuration changes. Simply install the Windows XP Driver and that's it.If you want to get real flash you can install the toolbox program but it is not necessary Panda
  7. Any pictures???Panda
  8. I could only find info on the IVA D310E, but I guess it would be close enough. It has an AV input (not sure of the type), so you should be able to run the carputer video and audio directly to it (without the need for the more expensive Arcade VGA card or an adapter box) As for the touch screen, you could probably hack into it and make it control the carputer, but this would most likely mean that you could no longer control the head unit. I wouldn't do it if it were mine. If all that you wanted was a TV Tuner, maybe just a stand alone unit like this would do. There's no way to get internet though without the carputer (well there is, but I'm not going to get into that) Panda
  9. sh*t yeah, that's a powerful machine for a carputer. One of the downsides of so much RAM though is slow hibernate and boot time, although when it gets going I bet it flies.Panda
  10. To each their own I guessPanda
  11. Another downside to the VIA Epia motherboards is that they only have one PCI slot. Also only a few of them have a COM port which is needed for the OBD.So you could only have 1 add on - TV Tuner or Wireless Internet or OBD etc. Not both or all 3. (Unless of course you got an external TV Tuner etc) but then you would need a USB hub, and again your talking about more money. Panda
  12. We were obviously leapfrogging each others posts there Let us know if you do find the other linkPanda
  13. Hey, good find. Any more info on this?Better than the $300 converter box I mentioned in the previous post. Panda
  14. Do these systems have an AGP slot?Without an AGP slot (assuming you want to connect to the factory ICC) you will have to buy a converter similar to this About $300 I believe. If you are not running to the factory ICC, you will have to buy an LCD / TFT screen. Price varies on these but it should be between $300 and $400, I haven't really researched this because I was always planning on using the factory ICC. Panda
  15. If PozzE has a better solution / package / price I have no objections, like I said this is just a hobbyPanda
  16. If I can get the components cheaper than mentioned in the first post, I will pass that saving on to you. But as it standsJaycar 250W PSU - $120 Wiring / Plugs - $75 Case - $50 Cooling Fan 1 x 12cm $20 Motherboard $75 Processor P3 733 $50 RAM 256MB PC133 $75 Hard Drive 80GB IDE $100 GPS Receiver $125 DVD Player $100 (assuming it is mounted in the case) Wireless Network D-Link $100 + for bigger antenna Cordless Mouse $75 AGP Video Card $75 (this is a standard Video Card, not the Arcade VGA Card needed to connect to the factory ICC in BA-BF) Again, if I can get the parts cheaper, the price will drop. Easy to connect, you will have to run a power cable from your battery to the boot and plug that to the PSU. You didn't mention how you will connect the sound to your car, nor what type of LCD you have (VGA input I assume) Panda
  17. What is really important is to match the hardware with the application. We are not talking about gaming or video editing here. The P4 is simply not needed for this application. It's was hard to get my head around it as well when I was researching the carputer setup because I am used to thinking 'bigger is better'. For this application bigger is not better, it is merely hotter, more expensive and outright overkill. Panda
  18. Screen shots and link Map Monkey That depends on what you want to use - there's a few out thereOn Board Diagnostics Can USB Digimoto Dontronics Multiplex OBD All In One OBD Scan OBD Pro The biggest problem is that with many of these off the shelf scan tools, you can't get the fuse cover back on with it plugged in. Probably buying the bits and assembling it myself would be the best asthetically. Panda
  19. That's a problem heat wise, that is why I am using the P3 Where were you when I was doing my carputer Thanks again
  20. The system I am building uses the factory Premium Audio Colour TFT screen If you don't have the Premium Audio, you would have to also buy and install an aftermarket screen Yes, it just plugs in and pulls outPanda
  21. The parts I need are- P3 Motherboard With - Socket CPU, AGP, Onboard Audio, 3 PCI slots, 2 COM Ports Without - Onboard LAN, Onboard Video, ISA slots, AMR slots - P3 Processor, minimum 766 MHz - 12Volt PSU - PC133 RAM - IDE HDD 80GB, 120GB, 160GB - Case Fans 12cm - PCI Audio card 5.1 - PCI Wireless Card (802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, Tri-Band) - GPS Receiver (COM or USB) - PCI Digital TV Tuner - Incar TV Antenna - IRDA tranceiver - DVD Player (slot load) - DVD Burner (slot load) - Aepro 711761 connector - Cordless Keyboard, Cordless Mouse, Cordless Keyboard with integrated mouse - Touch screen overlay - Startup / Shutdown controller - PCI Video Card That's about it, thanks for your help Panda
  22. Excellent, if I can buy the parts cheaper, I can sell the finished unit cheaperCan you PM or email or post the prices for all of the components - I have no issues with you posting the prices here. Just for the record, this is not a money making excercise for me. It's a hobby if anything. However I don't want to loose money. Panda
  23. The basic setup is very basic - it's just a computer. But the basic hardware needs to be there to add all the good stuff to it. You will be able to play MP3's, Movies that are stored on your hard drive and that's about it.So it's a big first step price wise to get the basics, and not a whole lot more for each of the upgrades after that. Basically (prices are estimates) it is - $750 for MP3, MPEG $850 for MP3, MPEG, Sat-Nav $900 for MP3, MPEG, Sat-Nav, Internet $1000 for MP3, MPEG, Sat-Nav, Internet, DVD $1100 for MP3, MPEG, Sat-Nav, Internet, DVD, In-car TV $1200 for MP3, MPEG, Sat-Nav, Internet, DVD, In-car TV, On Board Diagnostics Each add-on card costs a fraction of the base price, but without the base it can't be used. Panda
  24. All standard or freeware software - Operating System - Windows XP SP1 Front End - Roadrunner Audio player - Winamp Media Player DVD Player - Power DVD The cheapest way is with a wireless mouse. For extra you could get a touch screen overlay or remote or keyboard - it's your choice how extravagant you want to go I will have a basic startup controller - I.e. when you start the car, the carputer will start. It will not shut down automatically with this controller. For extra I can install a proper startup / shutdown controller which will turn it on when you unlock the car, and turn it off if you forget to before it drains the battery - it's your choice how extravagant you want to go If you forget to shut it down, it will flatten your cars battery The On Board Diagnostics can be installed to give you this function, but as with everything else, that costs extraJust think of it as a normal computer - what you can do with the computer you are using at the moment, you can do in your car. It just depends on how much you want to spend. Panda
  25. I have had a few people ask if I would build them a carputer, and after working out a few bugs and niggles, I am satisfied that the reliability is of a high enough standard to sell to others. I've had a bit of a shop around on the internet and have tried to find the cheapest (but good) parts available. If anyone wants a carputer built and has an old PC laying around, I can recycle the parts if they are of any use. This is about how it will shape up - Minimum PSU Jaycar 250W $120 + for bigger PSU Wiring / Plugs Various $75 Case Custom $50 Cooling Fan 1 x 12cm $20 + for ball bearing Motherboard ATX $75 Processor P3 733 $50 + for faster processor RAM 256MB PC133 $75 + for more RAM Video Card Arcade VGA $175 Hard Drive 80GB IDE $100 + for bigger HDD Extra PCI Cards TV Tuner SD Digital Tuner $100 + for bigger antenna Audio Card Dolby 5.1 $75 PCI USB card Generic $30 Wireless Network D-Link $100 + for bigger antenna PCI Video Card For rear screens $100 Optional Accessories Sartup / Shutdown $100 IRDA $50 + $20 for front mount USB port $20 + $20 for front mount Backup Battery $75 DVD Player $100 + $50 for front mount DVD Burner $200 + $50 for front mount GPS Receiver $125 Reverse Camera $150 On Board Diag. $300 Input Devices Touchscreen $250 Cordless Keyboard $50 Cordless Mouse $75 Extras Hidden PSU – add $20 (extra wiring) Hidden Carputer – add $20 (low profile cards, extra heat sinks) Front Mount- Power switch / USB / IRDA in tissue box area is an extra $20 - DVD in tissue box is an extra $100 More than 2 cards – add $20 (better motherboard) More than 3 cards – add $20 (extra cooling fan) More than 4 cards – add $100 (bigger PSU) Recommendations More than 2 cards – faster processor More than 3 cards – more RAM These are average prices not including postage, so the cost to me will be higher. Like I said earlier, all of the suppliers are different in their list price / postage / bulk discount etc. The average will be around $750 + postage. Of course, bigger and better is dearer. I can install this for you, but I live in Gladstone, CQ. Anybody interested? Any questions just ask. Panda
