when did the noise start happening, can u remember what work u had done to the car just before the noise started?
-
maybe it was me. there's four modded mercury silver t's in the area that I know of, boostedxr's, one that's around ballan road a lot, a one that's around heaths road and mine. n they nearly all look the same, despoilered, 19" FPV wheels, shiny coolers, can't tell em apart.

Dunno about FG but this is normal on B series with LSD, would guess it's the same diff. Sometimes I can hear mine doing this too. The way you can tell if it's normal is if it only does it when the diff is warmed up. So first thing in the morning, go do some tight turns around a roundabout or corner. If you can't hear it, go for a long drive (at least half an hour) on the freeway, then test again. If you can hear the noise now, don't worry, it's normal. But if it makes noise when the diff is cold, something could be wrong.

Definately go the intercooler first, since you already got a big cat, which is what holds back power the most in the exhaust system.

Very nice, and welcome back to the road. What a sick lookin BF you're driving, hottest thing going around.

Nah, I think he's probably right when he says he can hear the turbo spinning after shutting off the engine. I used to be able to hear it too, used to think it was the water pump. Now that I have a new turbo on it though, it is much quieter. You can still hear it if you're listening for it or you open the hood though. That's to be expected.

thanks, sent you a PM. yeah it's pretty common to hear the transmission blokes saying stronger bands and clutches etc but it's hard to understand why they're on average asking for $3500 swap over.

Doesn't anyone know anything about their built BTRs? There's gotta be a lot of people out there with them... please....
-
Interesting stuff. But I still want to hear from people who have had their BTRs built, what goes into them? Who can you recommend?
-
Wanna hear from someone that's had a BTR built, who did the work, had any problems, generally what the experience was. Also is there a reputable shop around western suburbs melb? And generally what are people's opinions on what path I should take...
-
Thanks gregor and henz. I want a box that can handle 330rwkw easily, as that's about the power I've got. Is a built BTR still alright for that? It won't be a daily driver per se, but will get driven fairly often just for fun/ cruising. What should I be looking out for in the way of what work will be done to the box? Kevlar bands and clutches, what else?

I'm looking at options for a gearbox after mine let go and have noticed there are three types of autos that people talk about. I wanna know what the difference is between them and also what auto do I have (standard BA box)? The transmissions are called T 400, BTR and C4. The problem with mine is that it started slipping into 3rd and then suddenly I lost 3rd and 4th gear altogether. I'm being told that the C1 clutch pack is stuffed but no one has looked at the car yet.

People, if you remove your centre muffler you are going to get the "sh*tty and farty six-cylinder noise".. I've been there done that and learnt my lesson, don't waste your time. Buy a bigger full exhaust system if you want a nicer sound, but remember it's a 6, don't try to impress pedestrians with that way it sounds, impress them with the way it GOES.
-
These always fall out, it's a stud which is threaded on both ends with an unthreaded section in the middle. I bought from Ford, part no. is W708547S300, cost about $7. I imagine it would be very difficult to put it on with the turbo in place. It needs to be screwed into the exhaust manifold, turbo placed over it and then a nut needs to be tightened onto it.
-
Fair bit of shaft play there sh*tbmxrider, mine only had about 2mm side to side. Got my turbo repaired in the end. If I pick it up and install it and I'm happy with it I'll let you know who did it.
-
Ok, turns out the problem was the turbo wasn't getting enough oil. Another victim of the crap oil line filter. I've always know about this common issue and had it in the back of my mind but never did anything about it, that's a big, expen$$$ive regret. Everyone needs to regularly clean the filter or replace it with something bigger.
-
Fried bearings is what I was thinking too. This problem happened only a week after I fixed the piping. Also, I've blown into the oil supply line and am finding it very difficult to get any even a small amount of air through it. Will be getting an aftermarket line and serviceable filter before installing new (or reconditioned) turbo. Does it look like I'd be able to replace the internals on this baby?

Ok, so recently on my way to work I noticed a noise from under the hood which kinda sounded like loose metal jingling around in circles. I lost nearly all boost and in the end decided to get the car towed home. I knew the sound was coming from the turbo so I took it off and this is what I found... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqhsBYUZkM0 A bit of history, had the car tuned to 310kw. Tuner didn't notice that the hot side intercooler pipe was loose the whole time. One day I get under the car and see it's nearly hanging off so I tighten it. Suddenly car has HEAPS more power, especially down low. (Hard to get traction, spins them even at 100km/h, revs like mental if you flat foot it - 7000rpm!) Obviously, this didn't seem right so I took it easy, didn't thrash it until I could get it back to the tuner. But didn't have a chance to take it back before the turbo decided to give out. Mods in sig. What are people's opinions?
-
I wouldn't brush off the "exhaust gases flowing along the outside of the pipe" thing (by which he means the gases move faster/ or there is a higher mass of air flowing nearer the walls of the pipe rather than the centre). It sounds like it may be true, I'm thinking Bernouli effect or something like that. I know that more electricity flows on the outside of a thick wire rather than the middle, that's what made me think. Either way, it would probably take more than to just calculate the area of free space or total circumfrence of pipes for the gasses to flow, because there are other differences like civillian mentioned, extra piping and the fact that the same volume of air needs to go in two directions after each muffler in the 2.5". Personally I've been told the 3.5" systems flows better and that back to back tests were done that proved it. Needless to say, I haven't seen any proof.

What was the result shauno? Have you had it fitted up yet?

Even if you have an F6 snorkel you need to take out the whole airbox to change the parker bulb. What a f*cking pain in the arse!

Should You Stay Away From Red Painted Cars ?
jimking19 replied to aussie_dozer's topic in Interior & Exterior Workshop
These cars look awesome in red, but I'd like to know what these "advances in paint technoilogy" are, that make the red paint on these cars less susceptible to sun damage. I definately wouldn't be assuming anything has changed, unless you know for sure. And I'd be taking extra precaution to keep it out of the sun because the truth is red fades in the sun easier than any other colour. Btw, do you have twin white stripes over your car now, saw this near Canberra airport and thought "faaark, that's hot!" -
Yeah they came with the Hollandia 700 from factory. If you're looking to get one aftermarket would advise you go for the same model. If you're in Melbourne the place I would recommend is Prestige Sunroofs in Maidstone, where I got mine done and was very happy with the result. You can get it installed for $1950 or for $2150 you can add the optional rain sensor (definately worth it, when you're spending that much anyway). The sensor will automatically close the sunroof while the car is parked if it begins to rain, or if you pass your hand over the sensor.
