  1. im after some opinions from people. is manually downshifting in the 4 speed auto bad for the box? im not talking anything excesive, usually while slowing down I would probably drop it back to third around 65 - 70kays then to 2nd at around 45 - 50kays, then let it go into first its self once im stopped. at those speeds though you can still feel it engine braking. ill be getting a tune soon to the high 200rwkw maybe very low 300rwkw mark and all ill be doing to the box is a service and a transcooler. but id like to give the gearbox the best chance it has , ideas? the thought of it harming the box never really crossed my mind until now. cheers.
  2. 01txr take some pictures while your doing it and do a write up mate!
  3. ^^ that's in perth by the way from walliston wreckers, where abouts are you located?
  4. I swear ive seen complete ba motors here for 3.5k, same with the boss motors. bad luck mate cars suck sometimes, have a good shop around, did you speak to ftg?
  5. if the car has an intercooler surely sucking in hot air from next to the manifold shouldnt make much of a difference?
  6. pwr will beat it in every single way, how ever the monza should do the job for low 300rwkw (400hp), but still not as well. you can pick some second hand monzas up for around $200 which is what I did and you could maybe match it with an under battery pipe, when its time to upgrade ill be going for a rapid v2 kit. its all how much you want to spend, for a $200 mod its a pretty good one.
  7. maybe find a stock one, im sure you'll get one for free somewhere. you dont want it making any gay dose noises infront of the cops
  8. a 40year old that's never drivin a performance car in his life will be able to handle a performance car the same as a 19 year old, when it comes to hooning if you know what I mean.. but does that 40 year old ever get criticised for having a high powered car? I think not. no one on this forum can say that they jumped straight into their new xr6t and knew how it was going to behave straight away, people have to get used to a car. and age doesnt always bring maturity, I get dangerously overtaken and tailgated by 30 - 40 year olds every f*ckin day on the way home from work. fast cars should be banned from stupid people, not young people
  9. on and shark - my cars still got stock power with 275 rear tyres so my traction control works for me haha dont know how it will go in the future
  10. my insurance is only 1200 a year through rac, insured for $20k I think a few people have said 'your 19, you have an xr6t, you will hoon' I dont think that's true at all. in 2 years I went from having an ef fairmont, to a ba fairmont ghia v8, to my xr6 turbo and I must say that the stupidest driving ive ever done was when I was 17 in my ef. I dont know about other people but having an expensive car makes me want to treat it nicely, traction controls a good thing aswell because 99% of the time its on so I dont even think about whipping it out. having one wont turn you into a hoon and I woulnt pay an extra 10grand just to get a 6speed bf over a ba 4spd ba turbos are getting sold for around the 18 grand mark, 20 in good condition 6speed manual ba mk11 is the way to go id say
  11. and if your worrying about not being able to handle it I wouldnt be. traction control stops you from doing anything stupid if your not trying to. and once traction control is off ive always found that mine is quite predictable to control
  12. im 19 aswell man and ive had my turbo for about 6 months, and in around feb next year ill be modding it to get it around the 300rwkw mark. they are bloody good cars, although I consider myself a v8 fan rather than a turbo fan, the xr6 turbo is definatly the choice over the xr8. the boss motors are pretty heavy and useless. an xr6t will have the same traction as an xr8 with the same power, its just a hell of alot easier and cheaper to make that power also I bought a 4speed auto because of my budget at the time, but if I had my time again I would have saved the extra cash for a 6speed manual. the autos may be abit quicker off the line, but the manual will always feel alot quicker on the street and a hell of alot more fun. the 6 speed auto is an awesome gear box aswell. definatly I would stay away form the 5 speed manual. after a flash tune the torque figures go through the roof right through the rev range so it makes them a good tow car aswell. they're best ford on the market for sure, they wipe the floor with commodores dollar for dollar, and jap cars are just plain gay so why not haha and if you have a read through this forum you'll soon realise that the skys the limit with these cars
  13. I mean f6turbo*
  14. fgturbo where did you get your gauges through mate? that's a pretty good price.
  15. did you have any issues fitting it into the guage pod mr man??
  16. 6L_ETA do you know if your fitting is replaceable with something smaller?
  17. well that's settled then, I know what my christmas presents gonna be haha vac/boost gauge and afr gauge :D who supplys the best fitting and looking twin gauge pods, does anyone have one from rapid? ive noticed a few brands dont sit fully flush
  18. great mate thanks for that, can I ask how much you paid for it? im guessing they are easier to install aswell, T off from the bov and straight to the gauge?
  19. are there many people that use the mechanical cobalt boost gauge? from what im looking at the electric one is about $150 more, I dont know if I can justify the extra money when its going to display the same reading, im guessing the mechanical gauge will be abit slower to respond being a pneumatic signal rather than an electric signal, but still I think I can deal with that. is there any other bad points?
  20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rqifJablOs that's the twin 2.5 system on an xr8, which will be the same as the cat back xr6t. obviously it will sound completely different but it gives you an idea that redback systems usually give a deep, soft, more muffled note, rather than tinny and raspy like some other systems. deep and soft is the way to go on an xr6t I rekon.
  21. I dont understand how what *Beep* described is different to an under battery intake in regards to being a dose pipe. its just longer piping isnt it?? does that mean the rapid v2 kits dose aswell??
  22. heres my 2004, same spot. previous owner painted over it and I was to stupid to notice, its came through this much in 5 months. thinking ill just sand it back abit, some kill rust or galv paint, then paint over it
  23. that looks pretty mean but I think it might be abit to low than what im after, did cutting the bump stops make it any lower aswell?
  24. my boots always empty mate and the rims are 19s, if anyone has a picture of sssl's with 19s id love to see it
  25. senna_T will sssl's sit the tyre fully in the guard or have it sitting just nice level with the guard? having 275s I dont want to go so low that I have to roll the guards
