Gooday all I had my say on another thread re Cobra's crappy personal attack on Vik and Sally. Thanks to XR6 ED for the PM suggesting that my "headlights on" feature might have drained a few kW on the dyno. Good thought.....I wonder how many kW low beam drains.....maybe I should've turned off the a/c too? Anyway 180kW is OK...it'll free up further. I've had cars in the past that were driven very hard 99% of the time and they made good power, but didn't go the distance.

Yeah, it was a good day. Played the videos in hifi stereo sound at close to full volume and those superb engines sounded magnificent. Mrs z still loves V8's and she was drooling over the red XR8. She thought Vik's old beastie was pretty nice too. The only downside of the day for me was (as everyone has been too polite to mention) mine was the least powerful T at 180kW (adjusted to the nearest kW...which I think is fair enough). Well, it is stock, automatic, and has done only 16,000km. If it was pushed a bit harder over those km it might well have done better. Also, it was warmed up by idling for a few minutes before the dyno runs, which probably didn't help. But, believe it or not, from where I sit it goes pretty well. And I can live with coming last 'cos someone has to. I've left the Morpower brochures on APS kits strategically placed around the house in case anyone in the family is at a loss as to what to buy me for Xmas. But I've also been dropping hints about the gorgeous, barely 2nd hand M3 in Prestige formula on Glen Osmond Rd (see, I'm really an optimist) But, I change cars every 2 years and the T and I have less than 6 months together from now. I've been watching all the threads on new car options and I even took a Liberty GT for an extended test drive thru the hills. It didn't impress me at all. I'll have to force myself to test drive a few 2nd hand BMW's to see if there's a viable alternative to the Typhoon, which is currently looking very attractive (and I previously liked the idea of a GTP). Yes, I do like driving manuals and the only reason my T is automatic is the bad press that the manual was getting when I ordered. Thanks again Lee for organising a great day. Especially thanks to Bruce for bringing along that phantom beastie to show the enormous potential that we can aspire to.

Aha....that makes sense. But 13 is a lot of prototypes.

I agree with F6 Tornado. It still sounds a bit suss. I mean, why have a special series of press cars? - or is it just one No 13? Why not just take one off the standard production line. Unless the press cars are specially assembled from selected components to avoid embarassing little hiccups like driveline shunt? But, if this was the case, why draw attention to it by having a separate series? But it's a fascinating little story. Surely someone can locate the "P013" car in Sydney to confirm its existence. If it's a press car it might also feature in some mag reviews in the pipeline. Even though I reckon some aspects of this story are a bit strange, I can't seriously believe for a minute that FPV would "rebirth" a demo car. I just suspect that there's more to this than meets the eye.

Gee, you'll fit in just fine around here.

I tried to interest Mrs z in bringing along her venom XT with the Herrod exhaust, but she's not keen....I think she's worried something bad might happen to it. She's had Fords for many years and is sadly used to bad things happening to engines etc. Wouldn't make much power, but it does make a lot of noise. "All sound and fury, signifying nothing"?? Anyway, I'll be there to show the HgAg flag.

Without rechecking the owner's manual, I seem to remember that they work for a specified time (? one hour) after the ignition has been switched off. Great idea.....I often had to turn the ignition back on in the Maxima just to close a window.

Its just not fair!! It's not bloody fair at all!! :ladysman:

I think some of you guys might be missing the point. This is a reverse phone directory. If you type in a number (just a number) it will give you the name address etc. (eg try typing in your own number, provided it's listed in the phone book) Add more info if you want to narrow things down, search the numbers in a street etc. It's much the same as phonedisc (the $130.00 version...not the $15.00 version) that used to be produced by DTMS until Telstra pulled the plug and shut the company down as they were infringing a copyright now licensed to Sensis. Bet this one doesn't last long...but it's great in the meantime. My guess is that it's pirated from the last version of phonedisc which was produced sometime last year.

Yeah, Vik's right. DallasQld had a sudden rush of blood to the head and started locking threads all over the place. Guess someone gave him his medication and this one got opened again.....god knows why.

Yep, I like the Optus site result better......1.24Mbps.

Forget usb cables - bluetooth's the go! All you need is to be willing to invest 10+ hours of blood, sweat, tears and frustration struggling with Sony-Ericsson's diabolical software

930.1 kbs. ADSL Internode

Well, I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't be.....unless of course you were doing something unusual when it happened....like hitting a brick wall at high speed.

Quote Vik "I must say thanks to Dr Zeke (didnt know he was a pox doctor)" WTF??!! I guess most people familiar with this forum know how to take some of Vik's comments. But, for the record, I deny being a pox doctor! Mr X, I can bring a DVD copy of the movie to the dyno day if you want one, cos it's a bit difficult to source these days. No need for a bottle of Grange.....(though the one from Vik was appreciated - then again, we all know what these plumbers rake in)

True! When my old Jag was on the dyno, they blew so much crap out of it that I thought the motor had blown up. Much the same with a 5-litre Commode I had a long time ago.

Life's been a bit busy lately so I haven't been able to keep up with everything that's happening here. But count me in as a definite for the dyno day - thanks for orgainsing it , ED. I reckon mine'll go well for a stockie (I hope). Vik I've got a tape of a movie to copy for you - do you want VHS tape or DVD? Cheers zeke

Yep - me too. A fabulous spring Sunday and I'm just finishing off two reports that I've been working on all day.....gotta be in tomorrow. I knew I should've got them out of the way last week! Bugga! Well, my loss. I need retirement and I need it like yesterday! Gotta get some tips from Vik on that.

There was definitely a post in mid 2003 about someone breaking an SSS gearstick and stating it was plastic. Lawsy, where did you read it was alloy or did you just assume it was alloy (as it bloody-well should be!)?

There have been a lot of revolutionary ideas re valves over the years.....sleeve valves, desmodromic valves etc. But the old stayer of poppet valves opened by a cam lobe (directly or indirectly) and closed by coil springs has stayed with us so far. But this one looks good. My reaction is along the lines of "wish I thought of that!"

I think someone in the accounts department moved a decimal point!

I had the bolts retorqued and the creak is still there (but less than it was, so far). The service manager showed me the TSB, that details the fix that they carried out (to the letter) originally. It says that the "steering gear" should be replaced if there is any creaking or clicking after the fix has been done. So there's a new rack on order for my car. What I can't understand is how the rack causes the problem, which seems to be a creaking noise originating from the bolted-together union between the rack and the cast aluminium cross-member. Shouldn't another rack be essentially the same? Still. if it permanently fixes the problem, I'll be happy. "Ours is not to reason why"

A boost gauge would be useful so you could at least see if the boost level is down on "off days".
