Converting My Xr6t To Lpg

Hey everyone,

Well after much searching, I have finally found some companies in perth that have a LPG kit for the XR6T.

Here are the details of my conversion:

Company: Rage Racing - 9250 8574 - speak to 'Pyson' and he can set you up

LPG Kit: Parnell VSI XR6T System (Vapour Injection)

Cost: $4800 all up but I am going to request a high flow high pressure fuel line to cater for a bit more power than I currently have which will cost a little bit more. Deposit is $500 to get the whole process going.

Booking Schedule: Pyson said everyone went nuts and booked in their cars when they thought the scheme was ending so at the moment the general delay is about 1 month for delivery of the system and then it takes 2-3 days for installation. It has started to slow down again already.

Power and mods: Rage Racing have a dyno setup etc so they wont have any problems tuning my car to similar power. He said this particular system has a 450-480 HP limitation (can't remember if that is fly wheel HP or not...still more HP than I want/need)

You dont need to go this way, but the person who set me up with Rage Racing is Bradley Guelfi from ProFIRE Engine management. The reason I mention his name is because if you email him, he will find a local LPG converter than can install the ProFIRE systems. He was also very helpful and friendly.

To be honest I'm not a technical person when it comes to cars so I really wont be able to answer any technical questions; I just wanted to post this information as it has taken me a while to track it down and I wanted to save some other turbo owners some time. if you have any overly technical questions just give one of the companies above a call.

I should have the car finished in late June -> early July so when I get the work done I will post my comments here for the benefit of those considering this conversion.

I looked into doing the same thing several months ago but got talked out of it for some reason that I can't remember.

So here in WA, we get the federal rebate of $2k and then we get a state rebate of $1k for a gas conversion, which then leaves $1.8k for you to hand over in cash.

The price of LPG is rising so it wont be long till its around $1 a litre, so what is the benefit, how many years will it take for you to break even and then start to save?

It would be an instant saving if the 3k covered it...

yep you got the maths right $1.8k to hand over.

I can't vouch for the price of LPG rising as that is only speculation however what is more of a surety is the price of oil going up hence the price of petrol. At even $1 per litre for gas I will still be paying 60c per litre (using the current yet ever rising price of petrol) less than someone using petrol. that's still a MASSIVE saving. It is estimated that (according to current prices) it would take me about 1 - 1.5 years to make my money back from the conversion.

All I see is LPG @ 55c per litre and petrol @ $1.60 per litre. This means, for the average person like me, I am in danger of losing my T because I cannot afford to run it.

Ford say it is a bad idea because they don't sell it. That said the Egas engines are made with stronger valves and valve seats to accomodate the way a gas engine runs. The iinjected LPG systems seem to be very good though

The government rebate was put in for one reason only, so that in a short time they will cash in BIG time when they slam down huge taxes on it. Diesel used to be cheaper than ULP by a fair amount, not its considerably more expensive because it is now mainstream...

Gas is used at a greater rate. People look at a 1:1 ratio, and then do the math on the probable savings... its all wrong... Most people sell their car before the savings show any advantage.

Oh well, everyone is different.

Diesel is actually so expensive because India & China are demanding so much
