Flash Tuner - Are Generic Tunes Different

Featured Replies

Thought this deserved a thread of it's own - are the "generic" tunes pre-loaded into the Flash Tuner boxes different depending on where you buy it from?

Does CAPA pre-load their tied and tested generic tunes before they send a box to say Herrod or Nizpro, or do these workshops load their own tunes, based on their own experience?

In most cases the tuners get the box blank then add there own genric maps to them

I always wondered if they could have boost controllers cause of the ecu, considering u need some kind of aftermarket management eg. flash tuner, to change the boost settings, so to the some how link the controllers to the tuners. Me confuzled :spoton:

What DBOSS said. Unless you buy your flash tuner from CAPA, the boxes will be blank and the dealer will flash a generic tune on it.

XRT06, the flash tuner is not some kind of aftermarket management system, like XCEDE or Unichip. SCT Advantage software allows the factory calibrations to be manipulated, including fuel, boost, spark, trans and torque settings to name a couple. Once a calibration has been modified for the car, the flash tuner box is programmed with these modified calibrations, then the factory pcm is reflashed with the flash box.

Comprende?

Probably be asked before but here goes....

If you have the stock tune in the flash box from the the original Ford tune and Ford flash an update, can you upload the new Ford update over the top of you old stock original tune.

but would it be nesessary as the update flash would not effect your custom tune anyway????? some1 feel free to correct me if im incorrect

Yes, provided you flash your car back to stock prior to the dealer reflashing it. All tuning boxes sold come with an instruction from CAPA telling you to flash the car back to the original program incase the dealer reflashes the car as part of a software update.

If you have a lot of mods then chances are you wont be able to run your car on a stock map. Only good if you have minimal mods at best.

Considering that an edit only vehicle runs about 240rwkw, which should well and truley be within engineering tolerances of the vehicle then, if some degree of mechanicl sympathy is applied when driving then you should have no problems.

After speaking with a Ford dealer, they informed me that they are aware of the edit, and that power level should be safe, and they would fix any warranty problems.

Fat, we are talking about keeping the latest stock flash from Ford in storage and updating it everytime they do....
