the clunk is just a bit of free play in the diff center, all cars have a little bit, so dont worry its not stuffed or anything and enjoy you new pride and joy. :unsure:

G'day ex-are-six and welcome. About the diff backlash. I found this is probabaly caused by the IRS. In IRS the diff is mounted to a crossmember that is mounted more solidly to the vehicle whereas a live axle tends to absorb driveline movement, and not transfering noise into the vehicle. Try Ford to make sure that diff backlash is not out of spec, if it's ok unfortunatly they will call it normal.
