My tuner has recomended I fit a cooler one as my coolant temp goes up to 104 after 1 hard run. I have mixed feelings about cooler thermostats, I think its a mask and once it's open of its going to get hot it will... another company told me that they tried the trident 81° and they got inconsistent temperature so changed back to factory. The other option is trident have standard temp thermostats 91° but they flow 30% more, but I have heard mixed things about these too, that it may not cool as well because the coolant moves through the radiator too fast to cool down..Cheers Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/92527-cooler-thermostat/ Share on other sites

I reckon it kinda helps to protect the auto transmission and I have no issue with the heater working well in my car (something I was scared would be the case as I love the heater). Mine doesn't get much hotter than the 1/4 mark, it'll go between the 1/4 and half mark when giving it a thrashing. I believe the tuner will play with the fan settings when doing the cooler thermostat. I also don't belive the standard gauge is a very accurate tool to measure coolant temperature, there is a very wide window between 1/4 and 1/2 way.. it is sort of idiot proof.. I have an ultra gauge in my obd port but for some reason always displays coolant temp as -40.... I hear the oil takes longer to heat up than the coolant and your thoughts on cooler thermostats are not incorrect, just for modded t's it's good. JamieB Member 58 Member For: 11y 9m 25d Posted 10/10/16 09:43 AM Author Share Posted 10/10/16 09:43 AM I just found these 50mm radiators http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/08-13-FALCON-FG-XT-XR6-XR8-G6-G6E-V8-Turbo-Heavy-Duty-50mm-ALUMINIUM-RADIATOR-/122077761880?nav=SEARCHAs long as they fit with a large Intercooler and tranny cooler I like that idea more than cooler thermostat..Has anybody had experience with the 30% high flow thermostats? Or playing with the thermofan cycle Temps Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/92527-cooler-thermostat/#findComment-1615968 Share on other sites
