I've started noticing a bit of a whine coming from under the car in recent weeks, I thought it may have been the diff... but after reading a few posts on here, it seems the box can also make a whine when the clutch plates start to wear out?

Also, I've noticed when giving the car some herbs in performance mode, it wont hold the gears and will upshift early and not ring out the gear.

Maybe this is a fail safe because the box knows the clutch plates cant handle it anymore?

The car's done 70,xxx kms and IS running 440rwkw, so I'm guessing its prob at that point where it's inevitably going to fail..

nah, I wanted to tune it but my tuner said not worth it otherwise I'll be back the next day for a built box...

I was just wondering if anyone here has similar issues before their box let go?

I've heard of ZF boxes letting go with 350rwkw, and others running 450rwkw all day every day no issues... it must come down to the tuner (power delivery) and how much they restrict the torque to the box.

Trans oil, trans tune, the way you drive, the way the tune delivers the torque it could be many things. Mine flares 4th when cold. I have a oil to air cooler and when I was going to give it a boot full (6 degrees outside) it didn't want nothing to do with third. When its warm I can smash thhe gears all day long. No issues.

Take it back to the tuner, see what he says/recommends.

400rwkw on mine, saving for a ZF rebuild already.

When you say whine...does it do it in every gear?...or does it just do it on a certain gear...and does it just do it while it's cold...and the whine goes away when it warms up?...

My BF had a slight whine in second gear...its done this from 60,000kms, it's now done 245,000kms...and the box is still going...

Though lately it has started to develop a whine when cold...which goes away when the car warms up...

I have also experienced the early upshift in gears (I.e the car not winding out the gears under full load...) and its very frustrating...

I know the computer does compensate by changing its shift patterns to protect itself...and I also think there is a "hot mode" on the ZF where it will restrcist kick down and not wind out gears when the oil hits a certain temperature...

Just for the record as I have been shopping around on a potential rebuild on a ZF, the absolute cheapest price I have found for a ZF rebuild is $2,800...(and that's supposedly mates rates...)
