Tuned Car + Country = Fuel?

Hey folks,

I'm in the process of changing jobs so before I start my next one, I'm keen to disppear down South for a week or so... Keen to 'reset' everything before I start it again at another place.

There's some great roads down south if you know where to look and I'd love to take the G6ET for a bit of a run.

My question is - What do you guys do for fuel when you're out country? She's tuned to 300rwkw so needs good quality 98 to run at her best. I understand it can be hard to come by and for all I know, it may be old fuel as they wouldn't go through as much as in the metro area's - Provided I can even find 98...

Considering trying to upload my 95 tune (Which I don't even know if I have tbh) but should I consider adding some octane booster into each fill? Or am I overthinking this?

I've been out bush with my tuned turbo for most of its 5yr life. Only place I've had trouble getting 98 fuel is the NT. These days qld/NSW/vic/sa 'usually' have a bp or Caltex with 98 in any town that's not tiny. Can't speak for wa though as I haven't been remote there. Where abouts are you looking at going? If youa re really concerned get a fuel can n fill that each time you get 98 fuel. Stinks out the car but a good backup.

Nothing too remote, but It'll be 3-4 hours South of Perth.

Can't imagine it will be too much of an issue, but once it arises, it's too late hahaha!

Can always call up servos in the larger towns you will pass through n ask about it. If it's only 3-4hrs take 20lt fuel can with ya. I usually get 9lt/100 highway driving throwing the right foot at it for each road train. Should get 700km or close to it on one tank plus your extra 20lt.

Certainly worth speaking with your tuner about octane booster/95 tune before you leave if you aren't keen on taking extra fuel.

Look em up on the internets.

I've done loads of trips down there with cars and bikes and never have issues with getting 98.

Dan we can even get 98 in Lake King which is a 450km drive towards Esperance from here, I was floored

Plus it's in a couple of towns on the way there too.

If you're just going South you should have no problem. I like to take a 20L with me anyway with known good Perth fuel in just in case though.

Open road fuel economy FTW! This was at an avg speed of exactly 110 as well. Of course that must mean I reset the counter while on cruise at 110 and pulled over really fast Also a few big overtakes and WOT from T junctions hehehe.

Full tank at the start.

If you rape the hell out of it on a trip though expect this (same trip but opposite direction)

PS bring back a nice pic of your car out in the sticks, beat this!
