$1k seems a little steep for what I imagine is an EEPROM flash which would take all of a minute to do...

Any geeks out there with dissasemblers? Im sure if someone were to post the latest ECU firmware file then someone could check it out and change anything inside...inlcuding any anti-tamper measures in it.

I doubt the Ford software security is even half as bad as a decent software product protection scheme.

I would say it would retail for under $1000.00 but as I stated before the price is not set yet.

For this price you get a handheld scanner/programmer which I think is pretty good value, you would be able to read diagnostics trouble codes as well.

One of these from snap-on is worth about $5000.00 and $700.00 per update card.

Yeah, it's not a grand to get your car remapped, it's a grand for an engine guy to buy the programming device. I'm sure you could buy one yourself if you wanted to. Just reprogram your car each day to suit.

So what is this device exactly ?????

Is it a ODBII, CAN compliant lan device, like a WDS ?

Can you read ODBII trouble codes and Status information ????

If so, then $1000 would be an absolute BARGAIN ! considering a WDS unit costs $17,000 or so (Not including the software updates ???)
